{"id":293904,"date":"2025-07-26T18:10:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T18:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/293904\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T18:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T18:10:13","slug":"ni-farmers-burdened-by-post-brexit-machinery-checks-say-uups-swann-and-butler","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/293904\/","title":{"rendered":"NI farmers burdened by post-Brexit machinery checks, say UUP\u2019s Swann and Butler"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/7986bd_fa193d32baf542d3bff00ac8ded30ce3~mv2.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"width:100%;height:100%;object-fit:cover;object-position:50% 50%;max-width:100%\" data-pin-url=\"https:\/\/www.loveballymena.online\/post\/ni-farmers-burdened-by-post-brexit-machinery-checks-say-uup-s-swann-and-butler\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/7986bd_fa193d32baf542d3bff00ac8ded30ce3~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_4296,h_3226,al_c,q_90\/7986bd_fa193d32baf542d3bff00ac8ded30ce3~mv2.jpg\" draggable=\"false\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG Hc-7- -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-t77n252\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Renewed machinery checks \u201cunreasonable and unsustainable\u201d, say UUP representatives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-z2jus3\">Unionist politicians have raised the alarm over renewed post-Brexit checks on second-hand agricultural machinery entering Northern Ireland from Great Britain, warning they place an unfair burden on local farmers and businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-fleob6\">Robin Swann MP has written to the UK Cabinet Office to express concerns that the Government has reintroduced checks reminiscent of the early days of the Windsor Framework\u2019s implementation, causing renewed disruption for the agri-sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-68sju9\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">Mr Swann, the Ulster Unionist Party MP for South Antrim<\/strong>, has joined with <strong style=\"font-weight:700\">UUP Agriculture Spokesperson Robbie Butler MLA<\/strong> in questioning the need for Phytosanitary Certificates when moving used agricultural and forestry machinery across the Irish Sea. <\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-9yrkk216\">They argue that the current rules are overly burdensome and are disproportionately impacting Northern Ireland stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-r9h6312\"><strong style=\"font-weight:700\">The Cabinet Office, responding through Nick Thomas-Symonds MP<\/strong>, clarified that \u201csecond-hand agricultural and forestry machinery must be accompanied by either a Northern Ireland Plant Health Label (NIPHL) or, if there is the potential for onward movement to the EU, including Ireland, a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC).\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"M8rfQ bTSJG bIc1y -Gy9d\" dir=\"auto\" id=\"viewer-s511b15\">\u201cThese rules are not new,\u201d <strong style=\"font-weight:700\">the Minister<\/strong> stated, \u201chowever, we are aware that some businesses have not been complying with them.
