The French rider ran out of steam, however, and Vos overtook her teammate with Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) threatening to grab victory and the maillot jaune instead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">\u201cI didn\u2019t now if Pauline was still hanging [on] in the finish, but in the end I sprinted a bit with Kim,\u201d Vos said, praising her teammate\u2019s effort on the hilly 78.8km route from Vannes. \u201cI\u2019m really grateful to the team and to Pauline,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/article\/2024\/aug\/18\/tour-de-france-femmes-kasia-niewiadoma-demi-vollering\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The defending champion<\/a>, Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon\/Sram Zondacrypto) came fourth, 10 seconds behind Vos. Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez) \u2013 who lost the overall title by four seconds in last year\u2019s race \u2013 finished fifth in Brittany, 13 seconds off the lead.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Marlen Reusser (Movistar), considered a contender in the general classification race, withdrew after crashing at the foot of the C\u00f4te de Cadoudal climb. The Swiss rider, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2025\/jul\/13\/giro-ditalia-cycling-elisa-longo-borghini-liane-lippert-stage-eight-report\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finished second to Elisa Longo Borghini<\/a> at the recent Giro d\u2019Italia Women, was one of around 10 riders caught in the crash some 30km from the finish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Britain\u2019s Pfeiffer Georgi (Picnic-PostNL) finished in 10th, 19 seconds behind Vos.
