{"id":294182,"date":"2025-07-26T20:43:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T20:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/294182\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T20:43:27","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T20:43:27","slug":"hundreds-of-donald-trump-protesters-march-in-edinburgh-and-aberdeen-against-us-presidents-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/294182\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of Donald Trump protesters march in Edinburgh and Aberdeen against US President&#8217;s visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A wave of protests have been organised this afternoon with many angry at the arrival of the President.<\/p>\n<p>13:50, 26 Jul 2025Updated 14:53, 26 Jul 2025<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/donald-trump-scotland-live-president-35622094\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Donald TrumpLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> protesters have begun to march in Edinburgh and Aberdeen to oppose the US President&#8217;s visit to Scotland this weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The 79-year-old touched-down at Prestwick Airport at around 8pm on Friday ahead of a five-day private visit to his luxury golf resorts at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/military-choppers-spotted-over-scots-35602911\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Turnberry Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Turnberry <\/a>in Ayrshire and Menie in Aberdeenshire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A meeting is scheduled with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is understood to be making the trip north on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, Trump &#8211; a well-known golf enthusiast &#8211; left Saturday free to play the vaunted Turnberry course and was spotted on the green this morning.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_JS376259313.jpg\" alt=\"Thousands of protestors gather in Edinburgh \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Thousands of protestors gather in Edinburgh (Image: Ian Forsyth\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Meanwhile, though, a wave of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/donald-trump-scotland-live-president-35622094\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"protestsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">protests<\/a> have been organised with many angry at the arrival of the president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Stop Trump Coalition confirmed earlier this week that they were planning events in Aberdeen in the city centre and outside the US consulate in Edinburgh on Saturday at midday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pictures taken <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/donald-trump-scotland-live-president-35622094\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"this afternoonLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">this afternoon<\/a> show hundreds of protests holding placards in the capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Outside the US consulate people held up orange signs displaying the message &#8220;Stop Trump, Free Gaza&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_JS376260206.jpg\" alt=\"Protesters at the Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Protesters at the Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen(Image: Nick Forbes\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Others held handmade signs above their head with messages such as &#8220;Scotland hates Trump&#8221; and &#8220;No to trump&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">In Aberdeen a number of Palestine flags were seen being waved during the demonstration as protesters gathered at the Union Terrace Gardens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Others at the protests decided to poke fun at the president with signs saying &#8220;Get oot nasty little man baby&#8221; and &#8220;Keep orange in a can and out of the White House&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It&#8217;s understood there could also be protest activity around Turnberry and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/military-choppers-spotted-over-scots-35602911\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"MenieLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Menie<\/a>, where Trump is expected to open a new 18-hole golf course named in honour of his mother, Mary Anne MacLeod Trump, born on the Isle of Lewis.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_JS376260203.jpg\" alt=\"People take part in a Stop Trump Scotland protest at the Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>People take part in a Stop Trump Scotland protest at the Union Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen(Image: Nick Forbes\/PA Wire)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Earlier this week, Police Scotland&#8217;s Assistant chief constable Emma Bond said the force will take a \u201cproportionate\u201d approach to ensure people can <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/everything-know-donald-trumps-scotland-35601345\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"protest Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">protest <\/a>safely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Activists say they are taking to the streets upon Trump&#8217;s arrival to express \u201cwidespread anger\u201d over the president\u2019s <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/everything-know-donald-trumps-scotland-35601345\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"policiesLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Connor Dylan, the organiser of the anti-Trump protests in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, told the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/jul\/24\/donald-trump-scotland-visit-protest\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"GuardianLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian<\/a>: \u201cThe vast majority of people in Scotland were already opposed to everything Trump stood for when he first visited as president.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;As we\u2019ve learned more and more about him and the way he <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/everything-know-donald-trumps-scotland-35601345\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"governsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">governs<\/a>, that attitude has only hardened.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_JS376258558.jpg\" alt=\"Demonstrators hold placards during a 'Stop Trump Coalition' protest outside the US Consulate building in Edinburgh\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Demonstrators hold placards during a &#8216;Stop Trump Coalition&#8217; protest outside the US Consulate building in Edinburgh(Image: SCOTT HEPPELL\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cHis <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/everything-know-donald-trumps-scotland-35601345\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"politics Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">politics <\/a>\u2013 and those of the people around him \u2013 have only become more extreme since then, with once fringe ideas like mass deportations now part of mainstream American politics and being effectively exported to the UK and other European countries by far-right allies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Fellow organiser Alena Ivanova added: \u201cThere\u2019s a widespread anger and determination to come out from people across Scotland and calling on our elected leaders not to give <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/news\/scottish-news\/everything-know-donald-trumps-scotland-35601345\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Trump Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump <\/a>the acknowledgement and welcome he wants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Saturday will be the first real test of Police Scotland during the visit as it looks to control the demonstrations in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, as well as any which spring up near to the president&#8217;s course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The force has asked for support from others around the UK to bolster officer numbers, with both organisations representing senior officers and the rank-and-file claiming there is likely to be an impact on policing across the country for the duration of the visit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">First Minister John Swinney &#8211;
