London has lots of excellent free-to-attend schools<\/a>. But for some parents \u2013 particularly very wealthy ones \u2013 sending their kids to a good state school is not enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A new ranking<\/a> has revealed the 10 most expensive private schools in the UK for 2025\/26, and two of them are in the capital.\u00a0London is one of the most expensive cities in the world<\/a>\u00a0to live in, so it\u2019s not surprising that the capital is home to two of the UK\u2019s highest costing\u00a0private schools.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In Britain the\u00a0average fee for\u00a0boarding students is between \u00a39,000 to \u00a315,000 for the whole year. However these elite schools represent even richer class of society.\u00a0We\u2019re talking the\u00a0children of\u00a0plutocrats, oligarchs and royalty. The kind of\u00a0students who\u00a0take Ubers to class on particularly cold days, and don\u2019t get drunk in field like most young Brits, but spend their rebellious years partying in\u00a0ultra swish\u00a0hotel rooms.<\/p>\n

Westminster School<\/strong>\u00a0was revealed as the third most pricey school in the UK. The central London college costs\u00a0up to \u00a321,992 per term \u2013\u00a0that\u2019s \u00a365,976 for the whole year. Some of Westminster\u2019s famous alumni include Helena Bonham Carter, Louis Theroux and former leader of the Lib Dems Nick Clegg.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Also making the top 10 was northwest London\u2019s Harrow School <\/strong>in sixth place, costing up\u00a0\u00a321,245 per term\u00a0(\u00a363,735 for the year). This very posh all boys\u2019 school is known for producing PMs (including Winston Churchill), and was also attended by Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Curtis and James Blunt.\u00a0<\/p>\n

From January 2025 many fee-paying schools in Britain became even pricier after their exemption from paying VAT was officially scrapped. It\u2019s the first time independent schools have had to pay 20 percent VAT on fees. Chancellor Rachel Reeves said \u2018every single penny\u2019 from the new levy would go towards funding state schools.<\/p>\n
