{"id":294546,"date":"2025-07-27T00:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T00:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/294546\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T00:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T00:07:09","slug":"not-the-united-states-or-canada-this-is-the-best-country-to-live-and-work-in","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/294546\/","title":{"rendered":"Not the United States or Canada: This is the best country to live and work in"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">If you have ever contemplated <b>living abroad<\/b>, especially if you are <b>looking for a career boost and\/or have children<\/b>, then you should <b>consider Switzerland<\/b> as a possible new home, according to the results of one study. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henleyglobal.com\/publications\/henley-opportunity-index\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.henleyglobal.com\/publications\/henley-opportunity-index\">Henley Opportunity Index<\/a> \u201cempowers investors to <b>identify high-potential countries they can access through investment migration programs<\/b> (also known as golden visa programs) to secure residence rights or citizenship, ultimately <b>enhancing their own and their children\u2019s prospects for long-term success<\/b>.\u201d That\u2019s according to Henley &amp; Partners, the global leader in residence and citizenship by investment and the firm that compiled the index. <\/p>\n<p>How countries were ranked <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Henley &amp; Partners <b>ranked nations around the globe according to six different factors<\/b> in order to create an overall <b>\u201ctotal opportunity score,\u201d<\/b> linked to allowing investors and their children to \u201c<b>pinpoint locations with optimal ecosystems<\/b> for growing their global networks and <b>maximizing their career prospects, earning potential<\/b>, and economic mobility for greater success and prosperity across their lifetimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.henleyglobal.com\/publications\/henley-opportunity-index\/methodology\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.henleyglobal.com\/publications\/henley-opportunity-index\/methodology\">six factors considered<\/a> were <b>earning potential, career advancement, top-tier employment prospects, premium education, economic mobility <\/b>and<b> high livability.<\/b> <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">While some of the parameters are self-explanatory, <b>economic mobility <\/b>\u201crepresents the sum of the national GDP shares of global GDP for each of the destinations to which its passport holders have visa-free access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><b>High livability<\/b>, meanwhile, \u201cuses the scores for private healthcare, quality of life, and safety and security, equally weighted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland beats Singapore, but USA not far behind<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><b>Switzerland came top of the list with a \u201ctotal opportunity score\u201d of 85%<\/b>, ahead of <b>Singapore<\/b> (79%). Despite growing political unrest, <b>the United States is third<\/b> when it comes to career opportunities and advancement (78%), with <b>Australia<\/b> (76%) and <b>Canada<\/b> (73%) completing the top five. <\/p>\n<p>The Henley Opportunity Index top 16 based on &#8220;total opportunity score&#8221;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Switzerland &#8211; 85%<\/li>\n<li>Singapore &#8211; 79%<\/li>\n<li>USA &#8211; 78%<\/li>\n<li>Australia &#8211; 76%<\/li>\n<li>Canada &#8211; 73%<\/li>\n<li>United Kingdom &#8211; 70%<\/li>\n<li>United Arab Emirates &#8211; 67%<\/li>\n<li>Austria &#8211; 66%<\/li>\n<li>New Zealand &#8211; 65%<\/li>\n<li>Italy &#8211; 64%<\/li>\n<li>Hong Kong &#8211; 62%<\/li>\n<li>Latvia &#8211; 60%<\/li>\n<li>Malta &#8211; 59%<\/li>\n<li>Hungary &#8211; 58%<\/li>\n<li>Greece &#8211; 57%<\/li>\n<li>Portugal &#8211; 57%<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"\">Switzerland and Singapore were the only two countries to achieve a top score of 100 in any category, both for earning potential. <b>The United States ranked in the top three for four of the six parameters<\/b>, with the exception of economic mobility and high livability. <\/p>\n<p>Switzerland: high living costs, ample opportunity<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The <b>cost of living in Switzerland is high<\/b>, although the <b>average gross monthly salary<\/b> was estimated to be 6,665 Swiss Francs in 2024, which corresponds to <b>approximately $7,439.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><b>More than 850 international companies<\/b> have their head office or other central functions in Switzerland, while the <b>World Health Organization (WHO), World Trade Organization (WTO) <\/b>and<b> the World Economic Forum (WEF) <\/b>are among the organizations based in Geneva alone. <\/p>\n<p>Related stories<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Get your game on!
