We played \u201cLast Day of the Miners\u2019 Strike\u201d for the first time ever. Why?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He went on to explain that it was inspired by Craig Oldham\u2019s book In Loving Memory Of Work, a book about the writer\u2019s family\u2019s experience of the 1980s strikes against the Thatcher government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was so good to share a proper summer evening with all of you,\u201d Cocker added. \u201cA massive thanks to everyone else who performed throughout the day. One for the books? Sure, but as Cocker puts it: \u201cHistory and stuff like that doesn\u2019t matter because it\u2019s all about now and what we can do right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/pulps-jarvis-cocker-tells-us-about-the-loss-of-the-leadmill-in-sheffield-3869416\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cocker also spoke to NME in June about the loss of Sheffield\u2019s iconic Leadmill venue<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a bit like when Starbucks first started and they would close down all the coffee bars to open theirs,\u201d he said. \u201cLeadmill was already a successful venue but now someone has bought it.
