England are on the brink of glory again under Sarina Wiegman.<\/p>\n

The Lionesses<\/a> are just 90 minutes away from winning consecutive European Championship titles as they prepare to face Spain<\/a> in Sunday’s Euro 2025<\/a> final. England have made it hard for themselves after needing extra time and penalties to see off Sweden in the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n

Wiegman’s side then needed extra time again in the semi-finals against Italy<\/a>, but avoided the dreaded spot-kicks after Chloe Kelly’s late winner. They now face the biggest test of all as they look to beat world champions Spain, who are chasing a first-ever women’s European Championship title.<\/p>\n

So who will come out on top in Basel, Switzerland this weekend? Below, writers at The Manchester Evening News have offered their predictions for Sunday’s final.<\/p>\n

I’m going to have to go with my head over my heart and say Spain. These England players must be physically and perhaps mentally fatigued after going the distance in both knockout games so far.<\/p>\n

And I think that will play a role in Sunday’s final, with Spain being the worst possible opponents if you’re tired, when you consider how well they keep the ball.<\/p>\n

England’s ability to stay in games and the Spaniards’ unconvincing win over Germany will give the Lionesses hope. But every tournament-winning team has an off day, and I fear that Spain have already had theirs.<\/p>\n

Prediction: Spain 2-0 England<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Michelle Agyemang, Chloe Kelly and Aggie Beever-Jones, England have the required fire power to change the game from the bench, so long as the Lionesses can stay in the contest until those changes are made.<\/p>\n

Looking at the performances of the two teams so far in this tournament there should only be one winner in Spain, but luckily for England football doesn\u2019t work that way.<\/p>\n

While the performances have not been perfect, the Lionesses have shown the fight and the never say die attitude to make it through the matches against Sweden and Italy, coming from behind in both to book their place in the final.<\/p>\n

England will be out for revenge as in Spain, they face the team who beat them in the World Cup final just two years ago. They will need all the fight that they have shown so far, and they do have the players to cause the opposition problems, whether that’s from the start or from the bench. Strength in depth has been key for England so far this tournament.<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s struggles in the semi-final against Germany should also cause some optimism for England. The way the tournament has gone it just feels like it\u2019s the Lionesses\u2019 time again – I\u2019m hoping it\u2019s not just my heart talking.<\/p>\n

Prediction: Spain 1-2 England<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a Portuguese supporter, I\u2019d love to see England lift the Euro 2025 trophy – they\u2019ve shown incredible heart, discipline, and resilience throughout the tournament. They’ve fought their way into a third consecutive major final, which is no small feat. That said, I do feel Spain might have a slight edge going into this clash. They\u2019ve looked technically superior at times and are tactically sharp, which could pose real challenges for England.<\/p>\n

One concern I have is England’s tendency to make tactical adjustments a bit too late in games. In high-stakes matches like this, timing is everything and against a composed, possession-dominant side like Spain, any hesitation in making changes could be costly. That said, I really hope I\u2019m proven wrong.<\/p>\n

Players like Agyemang bring such energy and creativity to the pitch, and I\u2019d love to see her get the start. If she and the rest of the squad rise to the occasion, there\u2019s every chance England could bring the trophy home.<\/p>\n

To match that, I\u2019m also predicting a goal fest.<\/p>\n

Prediction: Spain 2-3 England.<\/strong><\/p>\n
