{"id":295591,"date":"2025-07-27T10:05:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T10:05:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/295591\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T10:05:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T10:05:11","slug":"if-previous-bog-leaders-showed-40-of-current-leadership-economy-would-be-different","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/295591\/","title":{"rendered":"If previous BoG leaders showed 40% of current leadership, economy would be different"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghanaweb.com\/GhanaHomePage\/business\/If-previous-BoG-leaders-showed-40-of-current-leadership-economy-would-be-different-Prof-Bokpin-1993426?gallery=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/77855090.295.jpg\" alt=\"Prof Godfred Bokpin is an economist and professor at the University of Ghana Business School\" title=\"Prof Godfred Bokpin is an economist and professor at the University of Ghana Business School\" width=\"295\" height=\"162\" \/> <\/a>Prof Godfred Bokpin is an economist and professor at the University of Ghana Business School<\/p>\n<p id=\"article-123\">Economist and professor at the University of Ghana Business School, Godfred Bokpin, has commended the current economic management under President John Mahama, drawing a sharp contrast with the previous administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.<\/p>\n<p>According to Prof Bokpin, what Ghanaians are witnessing today is leadership that the country sorely lacked in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The current administration has ample room to take credit for the economy,&#8221; he stated during a discussion on TV3&#8217;s The Key Points on Saturday, July 26.<\/p>\n<p>He added, &#8220;If the previous management of the central bank had 40 per cent of the leadership that the current ones are showing now, the economic situation would have been different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prof Bokpin&#8217;s latest commentary comes on the heels of a related critique he made just days earlier in a separate interview on Joy FM&#8217;s Super Morning Show.<\/p>\n<p>He revisited the early days of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo&#8217;s presidency, lamenting what he described as a wasted opportunity to implement major national reforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the same expectation we had when President Akufo-Addo came to office in 2017 because he had the numbers,\u201d Bokpin recalled, referencing the NPP&#8217;s commanding parliamentary majority at the time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut unfortunately, very little was done in terms of structural and productivity-enhancing reforms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He described 2017 as a \u201cperfect moment\u201d for transformative governance but regretted that the administration failed to deliver.<\/p>\n<p>In his view, the current government has inherited that unfulfilled mandate.
