{"id":295709,"date":"2025-07-27T11:11:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T11:11:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/295709\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T11:11:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T11:11:14","slug":"when-i-watch-their-onboards-i-know-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/295709\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;When I watch their onboards, I know enough&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/max-verstappen\/829269\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Max Verstappen<\/a> is convinced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/mclaren\/36473\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McLaren<\/a> will remain out of reach in the 2025 Formula 1 season as one of Red Bull&#8217;s final upgrade packages hasn&#8217;t solved its car&#8217;s core issues.<\/p>\n<p>Verstappen kept himself in the mix at Spa-Francorchamps by splitting the McLarens in sprint qualifying, and used his low-downforce set-up to pass polesitter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/oscar-piastri\/869530\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oscar Piastri<\/a> and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/f1\/news\/f1-belgian-gp-verstappen-resists-piastri-sprint-race-win\/10745337\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remained ahead for the entire 15-lap contest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/f1\/news\/f1-belgian-gp-norris-pips-piastri-pole-hamilton-antonelli-out-in-q1\/10745467\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">qualified fourth on Saturday afternoon for the grand prix<\/a>, citing a sudden loss of grip in a warmer Q3 segment that led to two costly slip-ups, and meant he dropped behind both McLarens as well as Ferrari&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/charles-leclerc\/840485\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Leclerc<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having already upgraded its floor, front wing and rear corner winglets, Red Bull brought what will be one of its last 2025 upgrade packages featuring a reprofiled front wing and bodywork tweaks, raising the car&#8217;s overall downforce level.<\/p>\n<p>But Verstappen felt that, while the new parts worked as planned, they had not significantly improved the RB21&#8217;s balance issues he has been so vocal about.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLUS: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/f1\/news\/what-we-have-learned-from-the-belgian-gp-so-far\/10745590\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>What we&#8217;ve learned from the Belgian GP so far<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think they work, but it still doesn&#8217;t give me the balance I want to really attack a corner,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Those problems remain the same in terms of balance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753614674_831_max-verstappen-red-bull-racing.jpg\" alt=\"Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing, Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing, Helmut Marko, Red Bull Racing<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Red Bull Content Pool<\/p>\n<p>In public, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has remained optimistic about Verstappen&#8217;s seemingly remote chances to fight the McLarens for a fifth consecutive world championship.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are still 12 races to go, and we will continue to fight for the drivers\u2019 championship as long as it&#8217;s mathematically possible,&#8221; he said before the weekend, before telling broadcaster ORF after the sprint race: &#8220;Our goal remains the same: we want to win the world championship. We\u2019ve already gained one point.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When those comments were put to him, Verstappen was far less convinced he can bridge Piastri&#8217;s 68-point lead with the machinery he has at his disposal. &#8220;But Helmut isn&#8217;t in the car!&#8221; he said. &#8220;I understand that you have to be positive, but I&#8217;m always very realistic about how I feel in the car.
