We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"sc-1uza6dc-1 huxBsk\">Your support makes all the difference.<\/strong>Read more<\/p>\n<p>Marvel\u2019s latest offering,<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/reviews\/fantastic-four-first-steps-review-marvel-pedro-pascal-b2795740.html\"> The Fantastic Four: First Steps<\/a>, had a triumphant first day at the US box office: the second biggest opening of this calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>The film made $57m (\u00a347m) from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/fantastic-four-first-steps-silver-surfer-julia-garner-b2788583.html\">combined preview screenings and showings<\/a> across 4,125 cinemas on Friday (25 July), according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/box-office-fantastic-four-second-biggest-opening-day-1236470862\/\">Variety<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>That figure <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/fantastic-four-first-steps-marvel-post-credits-scene-b2795708.html\">puts First Steps just behind A Minecraft Movie<\/a>, which had the biggest opening day of the year in the US box office with $57.11m in April, and just ahead of Marvel Studios\u2018 comic book banner rival, DC Studios\u2019 Superman, which made $56.1m on its opening day on 11 July.<\/p>\n<p>The opening marks the best first day for a Marvel Cinematic Universe release since Deadpool &amp; Wolverine dominated the box office 12 months ago, which made $205m (\u00a3160m) at the domestic box office in its opening weekend. But it will be a close call on whether First Steps can outpace Superman\u2019s $125m (\u00a393m) three-day opening earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>First Steps is still Marvel\u2019s best opening day of the year, with its recent releases not being as lucrative. February\u2019s Captain America: Brave New World grossed around $88m (\u00a365m) during its opening weekend, while May\u2019s Thunderbolts* brought in around $74m (\u00a355m).<\/p>\n<p>The original Fantastic Four comic books follow a group of scientists who develop superhuman abilities after being exposed to a mysterious cosmic storm. <\/p>\n<p>The new Marvel film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards\/Mr Fantastic, The Bear\u2019s Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm\/The Thing, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm\/The Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm\/The Human Torch.<\/p>\n<p>It follows the quartet as they battle <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/fantastic-four-first-steps-ralph-ineson-galactus-costume-b2795163.html\">world-devouring Galactus (Ralph Ineson)<\/a> and his cosmic herald, the Silver Surfer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/EAH4020_comp_WTA_v0336-1127_R.jpeg\"  loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Pedro Pascal in \u2018Fantastic Four: First Steps\u2019\" class=\"sc-1mc30lb-0 ggpMaE\"\/>Pedro Pascal in \u2018Fantastic Four: First Steps\u2019 (Marvel Studios)<\/p>\n<p>The film has opened to mostly<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/arts-entertainment\/films\/news\/marvel-fantastic-four-first-steps-reviews-first-reactions-b2792649.html\"> positive early reactions<\/a> from fans and critics.
