Ukraine is\u00a0set to\u00a0receive 33,000 artificial intelligence-powered drone guidance modules from the US-German software developer Auterion, under a\u00a0new $50 million contract funded by\u00a0the US\u00a0Department of\u00a0Defense.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Financial Times, Auterion CEO Lorenz Meier confirmed<\/a> that deliveries of\u00a0the Skynode S\u00a0modules will be\u00a0completed by\u00a0the end of\u00a02025. This marks a\u00a0tenfold increase over previous shipments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are unprecedented volumes,\u201d Meier told FT. \u201cWe\u2019ve already shipped thousands, and now we\u2019re scaling up\u00a0to\u00a0tens of\u00a0thousands.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Skynode S\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0compact onboard computer with passive cooling, designed to\u00a0turn manually operated drones into fully autonomous platforms. <\/p>\n

Equipped with a\u00a0camera and radio module, it\u00a0enables drones to\u00a0detect, track, and follow moving targets at\u00a0distances of\u00a0up\u00a0to\u00a0one kilometer\u2014even in\u00a0contested electromagnetic environments.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian forces have already employed earlier versions of\u00a0Auterion\u2019s software in\u00a0combat. Meier emphasized that the company is\u00a0not seeking to\u00a0compete with Ukraine\u2019s existing drone industry but to\u00a0complement it\u00a0with advanced software-driven warfare capabilities.<\/p>\n

Auterion\u2019s AI\u00a0system provides object recognition and target tracking capabilities. Meier claims it\u00a0transforms drones into \u201cAI-based weapons systems\u201d capable of\u00a0operating in\u00a0GPS- and communications-denied environments.<\/p>\n

The primary role of\u00a0the Skynode modules will be\u00a0to\u00a0enhance Ukraine\u2019s defenses against long-range strike drones, such as\u00a0those supplied to\u00a0Russia by\u00a0Iran. <\/p>\n

The modules will also enable communication and coordination among swarms of\u00a0autonomous drones\u2014an evolutionary step in\u00a0Ukraine\u2019s drone warfare capabilities, according to\u00a0Meier.<\/p>\n
