{"id":296648,"date":"2025-07-27T19:38:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-27T19:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/296648\/"},"modified":"2025-07-27T19:38:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-27T19:38:17","slug":"formula-e-could-swap-london-for-silverstone-as-gen4-looms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/296648\/","title":{"rendered":"Formula E could swap London for Silverstone as Gen4 looms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Formula E may be set to swap the tight turns of London\u2019s ExCeL Centre for the high-speed corners of Silverstone as the all-electric series prepares to usher in its Gen4 era in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\nSpeaking during a media roundtable at the London E-Prix, <a href=\"https:\/\/evpowered.co.uk\/interview\/nissan-formula-e-electric-racing-ambition-2030\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nissan Formula E Team Principal and Managing Director Tommaso Volpe<\/a> appeared to confirm that permanent racing circuits are increasingly being considered by manufacturers for the next-generation cars, which will boast significant performance upgrades\u2014including all-wheel drive and increased power output.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could happen, especially with Gen4,\u201d said Volpe, when asked about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverstone.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Silverstone<\/a> hosting a future Formula E race. \u201cWe have a verbal commitment to keep at least half the circuits in city centres, because it\u2019s part of Formula E\u2019s DNA\u2014but with cars being more performing, circuits like Silverstone will be more appropriate for the level of performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Formula E\u2019s current deal with the ExCeL runs until the end of the 2026 season\u2014coinciding with the scheduled debut of Gen4 cars. These new machines are expected to deliver unprecedented levels of energy efficiency and corner-exit acceleration, with performance figures approaching those seen in more traditional top-tier racing categories.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-19827\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Tommaso-Volpe-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"Nissan-Formula-E-chief-Tommaso-Volpe-told-EV-Powered-Silverstone-is-potential-Formula-E-venue\" width=\"850\" height=\"478\"  \/>Nissan Formula E chief, Tommaso Volpe (Image: Nissan)<\/p>\n<p>Volpe acknowledged that Gen4\u2019s capabilities could outgrow several city venues. \u201cSome locations like this one, or other city circuits we used for Gen2 and Gen3, won\u2019t be ideal for Gen4.
