Newcastle United<\/a> striker and Liverpool<\/a> transfer target Alexander Isak<\/a> has rejected a stunning contract offer worth \u00a3600,000-a-week.<\/p>\n Isak informed Newcastle last week that he wants to explore his options this summer<\/a> despite having three more years on his current contract.<\/p>\n Newcastle spent \u00a363m on the Sweden international in 2022 and have seen Isak develop into one of the best strikers in the world.<\/p>\n Isak scored 27 goals in all competitions last season to help Newcastle win the Carabao Cup<\/a> and qualify for the Champions League.<\/p>\n Despite tentative transfer rumours earlier in the year, Isak was expected to stay at St James\u2019 Park this summer \u2013 but he dropped a bombshell last week by telling Newcastle he was open to leaving.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tGet personalised updates on Liverpool every day\t\t\t<\/p>\n Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro\u2019s Football Newsletter. <\/p>\n Sign up to our newsletter<\/a> and then select your team in the link we\u2019ll send you so we can get football news tailored to you.<\/p>\n Isak is yet to join up with his Newcastle teammates on their pre-season tour in southeast Asia as he is reportedly managing a minor thigh injury.<\/p>\n Liverpool have expressed interest in signing Isak since he revealed he was open to a summer move<\/a> but Newcastle still want well over \u00a3100m for the striker.<\/p>\n \t\t Arne Slot sanctioned Liverpool\u2019s \u00a369m move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike earlier this month<\/a> but the Premier League champions are also interested in bringing Isak to Anfield.<\/p>\n Isak has also attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, with Al Hilal offering the forward a contract worth a stunning \u00a332m-a-year tax-free with lucrative bonuses on top.<\/p>\n As well as pocking \u00a3600,000-a-week over three years, Isak has been promised a further \u00a33.6m for winning the Saudi Pro League and \u00a31.75m for finishing as the division\u2019s top scorer, according to The Sun<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t Al Hilal finished second in the Saudi Pro League last season and recently poached Simone Inzaghi from Champions League finalists Inter Milan.<\/p>\n Despite the incredible sums on offer, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano<\/a> says Isak has rejected the approach from Al Hilal and informed the club he intends to remain in Europe.<\/p>\n Liverpool will not come close to matching Al Hilal\u2019s contract proposal but can offer Isak the chance to win major trophies under Arne Slot.<\/p>\n As well as signing Ekitike, Liverpool have bolstered Slot\u2019s Premier League champions with the signings of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.<\/p>\n Eddie Howe on Alexander Isak\u2019s future at Newcastle<\/p>\n Newcastle boss Eddie Howe addressed the speculation over Isak\u2019s future ahead of the club\u2019s pre-season friendly against Arsenal on Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2018He is now in Newcastle getting his injury assessed. Hopefully he will be back soon and playing in the black and white shirt, that\u2019s what we want to see,\u2019 Howe said.<\/p>\n \u2018Of course there are things going on behind the scenes. Conversations that happen between Alex and ourselves and Alex and the club will stay private.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018He is very popular in the dressing room and would love him to continue his journey at Newcastle. There are no contract talks taking place, that will be for a later date, potentially.<\/p>\n \u2018I certainly hope he stays. It\u2019s football, who knows what the future will bring.\u2019<\/p>\n Speaking after the game, which Arsenal won 3-2<\/a>, Howe said there was \u2018no chance\u2019 that Isak would join the pre-season tour for Newcastle\u2019s final two games in southeast Asia.<\/p>\n Liverpool tipped to sign Isak after \u201912-month pursuit\u2019<\/p>\n Ex-Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has predicted Isak will end up at Anfield and believes the club have been pursuing him behind the scenes for 12 months.<\/p>\n \u2018I can only see Alexander Isak joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, which is now expected,\u2019 he wrote in his column for\u00a0CaughtOffside<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2018I think this has been something that\u2019s been ongoing probably for 12 months or more. I think the expectation from Newcastle was that it was going to be next season that other clubs were going to bid.<\/p>\n \u2018A lot of fans will want him to be sold abroad, but it doesn\u2019t work like that.
