Former council offices could soon be converted into flats according to new plans recently submitted. Each week Bristol City Council<\/a> receives dozens of planning applications seeking permission for a whole range of developments.<\/p>\n Over the past seven days, those applications also included putting up a sign outside a cafe run by former prisoners and expanding a shared house. Here\u2019s this week\u2019s round-up of notable planning applications submitted to the council.<\/p>\n Every week dozens are validated by the local authority and we have selected some of the more interesting proposals. All planning applications submitted to the council have to be validated and are available for inspection by the public. Anyone is also allowed to submit comments about the applications \u2014 whether in support or objection.<\/p>\n The majority of applications are decided by planning officers at the council under delegated powers. However, some will go before elected councillors who sit on planning committees. No dates have been set for when the planning applications below will be determined. They can be viewed by going to the planning portal<\/a> on Bristol City Council\u2019s website.<\/p>\n Council offices converted into flats<\/strong><\/p>\n Former council offices in Brislington<\/a> could be converted into flats. The building on West Town Lane would become five self-contained apartments, if the plans are granted permission. It was previously used as a local area housing office, but recently closed down. The offices opened in 1988 with an initial plan to stay there only temporarily.<\/p>\n In planning documents<\/a>, architects said: \u201cThe proposal will deliver much-needed residential accommodation in a sustainable location with good transport links, without causing unacceptable impacts on transport, flooding, contamination, noise, amenity, or the vitality of the local area.\u201d<\/p>\n LED sign outside prisoner cafe<\/strong><\/p>\n A new LED sign could be put outside a cafe run by former prisoners<\/a> on Gloucester Road. The illuminated sign would say the name of the venue, the Key Cafe, and would be placed on the front of the building. The cafe is located in front of HMP Bristol and opened earlier this year, creating job opportunities for people leaving the prison and rehabilitating them into society.<\/p>\n When Bristol Live visited the cafe shortly after it opened<\/a>, our reviewer noted: “You may walk straight past The Key Cafe on Gloucester Road if you aren’t looking for it. There’s no signage on the front of the building – only a sandwich board to say that this brand new cafe on Bristol’s bustling independent shopping street is now open.”<\/p>\n Expanding a shared house<\/strong><\/p>\n A house in multiple occupation in Knowle<\/a> West could be expanded<\/a>. The shared house on Preston Walk would go from having six bedrooms to seven bedrooms, with a study room converted into a bedroom. The changes to the semi-detached house don\u2019t include any physical alterations or construction work.
