The reshaped last stage of the Tour de France<\/a> on Sunday was impressively<\/a> won by Wout van Aert<\/a>. The Belgian rider from Visma <\/a>| Lease a Bike attacked on the Montmartre and pulled away from yellow jersey Tadej Pogacar. Lance Armstrong<\/a>, George Hincapie, and Bradley Wiggins<\/a> were impressed by Van Aert’s performance on Sunday, they said in their THEMOVE<\/a> podcast.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cThis was classic Wout van Aert,\u201d Armstrong expressed his admiration in the episode titled \u201cThe Reemergence of Wout van Aert.\u201d \u201cHe did something that no one else has managed to do in three weeks: he dropped Pogacar. When you add everything together \u2014the weather, this route \u2014it’s such a great victory. What he did was a boss move,\u201d said the former cyclist from Texas.<\/p>\n

Hincapie praises the resilience of the Belgian rider from Visma | Lease a Bike. \u201cLook at what happened last year in the Vuelta. He crashed so badly, but now he’s back with a super strong spring and then goes on to do the Giro and Tour.\u201d The American sees Van Aert’s victory as a positive highlight for his team. \u201cThey had a plan. We criticized their strategy, but this was magical.\u201d<\/p>\n

When you mention Van Aert, you often end up talking about Mathieu van der Poel. \u201cMathieu shook up the Tour in the first part with that stage win and the yellow jersey, but we don’t remember that anymore. Wout has now won the most technical, difficult last stage of the Tour, and it was his tenth stage win in total in the Tour. He just never gives up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI still see Mathieu and Wout as equals,\u201d Wiggins agrees. \u201cMathieu is still on a different level in the classics, which Wout hasn’t reached yet.
