Now the airport has responded and confirmed its intentions to celebrate the star.<\/p>\n

Birmingham Airport has confirmed its plans to celebrate Ozzy Osbourne following a petition to rename BHX<\/a> in the Black Sabbath star’s honour.<\/p>\n The 76-year-old died on Tuesday, July 22, and the loss of the star weeks after his final show at Villa Park Stadium<\/a> sparked an outpouring of grief among Birmingham’s communities<\/a> and all over the world.<\/p>\n As fans flocked to Birmingham’s Black Sabbath landmarks to lay flowers, cards and candles, some were petitioning to honour Ozzy in more long-term ways.<\/p>\n Read more: Calls to honour Ozzy Osbourne with Birmingham statue, state funeral and new airport name<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Read More: Ozzy Osbourne tributes from literally every corner of Birmingham we’ll share with Sharon<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Among the calls was one to rename Birmingham Airport<\/a> in memory of the Prince of Darkness, with others asking for a day of national mourning, a statue and a state funeral.<\/p>\n Now Birmingham<\/a> Airport says it does intend on celebrating Ozzy’s heritage – but through the addition of artwork in its terminal.<\/p>\n A spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “Ozzy Osbourne is an inspiration to so many in our region proving that talent, hard work, and commitment can take you to all corners of the world.<\/p>\n “In the coming weeks, we will be looking at how we can celebrate his heritage and contribution to the region via terminal artwork, creating a greater sense of place for Birmingham and his fans.”<\/p>\n Fans of Ozzy have been showing up in great numbers to sign books of condolences at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery<\/a> and over at Villa Park in Aston, where Ozzy grew up.<\/p>\n Digital books of condolence have opened for those who can’t make it into the city while others have been using a vintage phone in the museum to record voice notes in honour of the star.<\/p>\n We too collected tributes, sparking messages from people in literally every corner of Birmingham,<\/a> which we shared with Sharon Osbourne in the days following her husband’s death.<\/p>\n
