club’s owners following a nightmare transfer window that has suffered a new setback.

There was lots of positivity around St James’ Park following Newcastle’s Champions League qualification at the end of 2024/25, but that has now dissipated due to their recent struggles in the transfer market.

Football Insider revealed in June that Newcastle are expected to make up to three major signings this summer, but they have routinely missed out on their top targets so far, as Hugo Ekitike has joined Liverpool, while they wanted to sign Mbeumo but were beaten to the transfer by Man United.

Football Insider recently revealed that Howe was “devastated” to have missed out on signing Joao Pedro, and they have been rocked by star striker Alexander Isak wanting to leave St James’ Park, while Newcastle have also been told that Yoane Wissa is not for sale and have been beaten to James Trafford’s signature by Man City.

All of these setbacks will massively irk Howe and their supporters who were promised a fruitful window after their success last season, and the club have now suffered another big blow to their chances of landing a major striker target, while the former Bournemouth boss is not in the owners’ good books.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" loading="lazy" MediaMan United join Sesko race and PIF blame Howe for struggles

Benjamin Sesko has emerged as a priority target for Newcastle due to their struggles in signing other strikers like Mbeumo, Ekitike and Wissa, and journalist Mark Douglas (24 July) has stated that the Magpies are known to have been long-term admirers of the Slovenian forward.

MORE FOOTBALL INSIDER STORIES

They have suffered yet another setback in their pursuit of a key player, however, as Sky Sport Germany’s Philipp Hinze (28 July) has reported that Man United are also in negotiations with Sesko’s camp, and so the decision about which club he joins this summer now solely lies with him and his agents.

Newcastle simply must win the race for his services, or it will be another main target that they have missed out on, and Football Insider exclusively revealed on Monday, 28 July that the Tyneside club’s hierarchy believe Howe is partly to blame for their terrible window up to now.

Those with inside knowledge of the situation have told Football Insider that his “indecisiveness” is privately seen as one of their main problems in getting deals over the line, and so if they do miss out on Sesko, Howe may well see fit to leave the club with everything seemingly going wrong.

The 47-year-old has previously been known to have a good relationship with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who are Newcastle’s majority owners, but with that now breaking down, he could be forced out of the door soon enough regardless.

Howe is said to have been “blind-sided” by news that Isak wants to leave the club, with PIF surprisingly getting involved in the situation rather than leaving him to deal with it, so all is clearly not well at the top regarding his status as boss.

He will surely want to leave on his own terms rather than being sacked, and so with Sesko potentially set to choose a move to Old Trafford following numerous other transfer setbacks, his decision to quit the club may be confirmed very soon.

<p lang="en"
