Sheffield Wednesday are seemingly getting closer to starting the 25\/26 season without new ownership in place, right after watching former stars sign for other clubs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, bad news has become the norm for Wednesday<\/a> fans so far this summer, who are still yet to see any new faces arrive for next season.<\/p>\n

The past week has led the Owls<\/a> to lose both Josh Windass and Michael Smith to other Championship sides in Wrexham<\/a> and Preston North End<\/a>, after their contracts were mutually terminated<\/a> – the pair scored and assisted 39<\/a> of Wednesday’s goals last season.<\/p>\n

Defender Akin Famewo, who was offered<\/a> a new deal at Sheffield Wednesday alongside Barry Bannan and Callum Patterson when his contract expired, is now reportedly training with Hull City as he prepares for his next chapter.<\/p>\n

According to Hull Daily Mail<\/a>, the 26-year-old centre-back, who made 73 appearances<\/a> for the Owls over three years, is training with the Tigers and could feature in Tuesday’s friendly against newly-promoted Sunderland.<\/p>\n\n

Famewo posted an emotional farewell message on Instagram<\/a> upon leaving Wednesday, stating “I want to say a massive thank you to the staff, players and supporters. I’m proud to have represented the club over the last three years and have loved every minute of it.”<\/p>\n

Famewo was a key figure in Wednesday’s promotion-winning campaign through the League One play-offs in 2023, featuring 35 times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hull City have reportedly<\/a> agreed terms to bring the former Norwich City defender to the MKM Stadium, with the deal expected to be announced soon.<\/p>\n

Chansiri holds firm on valuation<\/p>\n

Despite Sheffield Wednesday’s ongoing financial crisis and the departure of key players, owner Dejphon Chansiri remains adamant in his \u00a3100m valuation of the club according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Thai businessman has reportedly dropped his initial asking price from \u00a3150m, but Nixon says<\/a> potential buyers still consider the current figure too high for any potential deal to be made.<\/p>\n

Of course, the valuation comes at a time when Wednesday are dealing with multiple<\/a> EFL sanctions and outstanding debts to HMRC and other clubs. It’s also worth a reminder that any prospective new owner would also inherit an immediate \u00a34m debt<\/a> from Chansiri.<\/p>\n

The high asking price has apparently<\/a> led to several interested parties walking away, including a consortium that had reached advanced stages of talks earlier this summer.<\/p>\n

Wednesday no longer actively seeking player sales<\/p>\n

With less than three weeks until the new season begins, time is continuing to run short for Wednesday<\/a> both on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n

Chansiri holding a reported valuation grudge won’t be surprising for supporters, but the news regarding Famewo only adds to fears that the few first-team players that are still at the club could be next – regardless of the need to sell anymore.<\/p>\n
