La Jet\u00e9e<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: Available to rent on Apple TV<\/p>\n<p>La Jet\u00e9e is a French sci-fi thriller that you can watch on your lunch break with time to spare.<\/p>\n<p>Clocking in at just half an hour, Chris Marker\u2019s 1966 film is told almost entirely using still photos and explores the time loop story of a post-nuclear war experiment in time travel featuring unnamed characters.<\/p>\n<p>8. The Thing (1982)<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: ITVX<\/p>\n<p>Regularly hailed as <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/07\/20\/legendary-sci-fi-film-dubbed-one-best-ever-made-streaming-free-23708189\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the best sci-fi films ever made<\/a>, The Thing garnered a cult following after its home video release back in the 80s.<\/p>\n<p>John Carpenter\u2019s classic sci-fi film tells the story of a group of American researchers in Antarctica who come across an extraterrestrial life form that can infiltrate the bodies of other living organisms and imitate them to go undetected.<\/p>\n<p>7. Dune: Part Two<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: NOW TV and Sky<\/p>\n<p>While <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2021\/10\/18\/dune-review-timothee-chalamet-sci-fi-is-dry-dusty-and-lacking-spice-15439407\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Part One<\/a> didn\u2019t break the top 20 on Letterboxd, Denis Villeneuve\u2019s <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/02\/21\/dune-part-2-reviews-flood-critics-speechless-20323588\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dune: Part Two<\/a> ranks in number seven of the top sci-fi films.<\/p>\n<p>The 2024 sequel sees Paul Atreides (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/timothee-chalamet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Timothee Chalamet<\/a>) unite with Chani (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/zendaya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zendaya<\/a>) and the Fremen to hatch a plan for revenge against the Harkonnen and those who killed his family.<\/p>\n<p>6. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: Disney Plus<\/p>\n<p>Despite their legendary status in the world of film, only one <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/star-wars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Star Wars<\/a> film impressed Letterboxd users enough to enter the top 10.<\/p>\n<p>Set three years after the events of A New Hope, Princess Leia (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/carrie-fisher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carrie Fisher<\/a>) continues to lead the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire, while Luke Skywalker (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/mark-hamill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke Hamill<\/a>) trains in the ways of the Jedi.<\/p>\n<p>5. Stalker<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: Available to rent on Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store<\/p>\n<p>Released in 1979, Andrei Tarkovsky\u2019s Stalker was ranked number 29 on the BFI\u2019s list of the greatest films of all time \u2013 but it sits at number 4 in Letterboxd\u2019s sci-fi rankings.<\/p>\n<p>It tells the story of an expedition led by a figure known as the Stalkee (Alexander Kaidanovsky), who guides two clients to a mysterious restricted site known simply as the Zone, where there supposedly exists a room that grants a person\u2019s innermost desires.<\/p>\n<p>3. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: Netflix<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re back into the Spider-verse \u2013 <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/05\/31\/spider-man-across-the-spider-verse-review-cool-marvel-mayhem-18874136\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">or across it, I should say<\/a> \u2013 in our number three spot.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2018\/12\/17\/teachers-told-id-never-actor-says-spider-man-star-shameik-moore-8256959\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shameik Moore<\/a> is back as Miles Morales in the 2023 film, as he joined forces with Gwen Stacy (<a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/hailee-steinfeld\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hailee Steinfeld<\/a>) in a bid to stop a new threat in the form of the Spot.<\/p>\n<p>2. Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion<\/p>\n<p>Where to watch: Netflix<\/p>\n<p>Japanese animated apocalyptic science fiction Neon Genesis Evangelion: End of Evangelion is one of the greatest animated films ever made, nay, one of the greatest films ever made, so it stands to reason it\u2019s here at number one.<\/p>\n<p>Directed by Hideaki Anno and Kazuya Tsurumaki, it serves as an alternate ending to the television series <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2019\/06\/25\/netflixs-neon-genesis-evangelion-accused-queer-erasure-dub-backlash-10059479\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neon Genesis Evangelion<\/a>, which aired from 1995 to 1996. <\/p>\n<p>It follows the teenagers Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, and Asuka Langley Soryu, who pilot mechas
