{"id":300134,"date":"2025-07-29T03:16:19","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T03:16:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300134\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T03:16:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T03:16:19","slug":"trump-in-scotland-donald-trump-arrives-at-aberdeenshire-golf-course-in-helicopter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300134\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump in Scotland: Donald Trump arrives at Aberdeenshire golf course in helicopter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Donald Trump has arrived at his second golf course in Aberdeenshire, after meeting with Sir Keir Starmer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>His motorcade left the South Ayrshire resort on Monday evening after the US President and the Prime Minister took questions from journalists.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Starmer arrived at Turnberry on Monday afternoon, before the pair touched down in Air Force One at Lossiemouth, with a piper playing the pair in upon arrival.<\/p>\n<p>They went on to land at Trump\u2019s International Golf Links on the Menie Estate in Balmedie via helicopter.<\/p>\n<p>First Minister John Swinney is to attend a dinner with Trump to mark the official opening of the second course.<\/p>\n<p>Swinney said the dinner provides an opportunity to \u201cadvance the interests of Scotland\u201d amid discussions over tariff exemptions for the whisky and salmon sector.<\/p>\n<p>Trump greeted Starmer and his wife as he arrived at around 12.40pm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Standing on the Turnberry steps, the US President said he \u201cloved this country\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mother was born in Scotland, it\u2019s an incredible place \u2013 a beautiful place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur relationship with the UK is unparalleled.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.stv.tv\/scotland\/donald-trump-gives-opinion-on-second-scottish-independence-referendum\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"324\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/5c8cd33fc417c89df9575a1e836c2045-1753709849-324x216.jpg\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"  \/> <\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/news.stv.tv\/wp-content\/themes\/stvnews\/static\/images\/icon-play-overlay.svg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" alt=\"Play icon\"\/><\/p>\n<p>On tariffs on the Scottish whisky industry, the US President said: \u201cI didn\u2019t know whisky was a problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a big whisky drinker but maybe I should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Trump said the children \u201clook very hungry\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cWe are giving a lot of money and a lot of food to Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Starmer said: \u201cIt\u2019s a humanitarian crisis, and people in Britain are revolted by the scenes in Gaza. (Photo by Christopher Furlong \/ POOL \/ AFP) (Photo by CHRISTOPHER FURLONG\/POOL\/AFP via Getty Images)\"  \/> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The President was also asked about his advice for dealing with the small boats\u2019 crisis in the UK.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are stopping the wrong people, my hats are off to you,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>The President said if the \u201cboats are loaded up with bad people, and they usually are because other countries don\u2019t send their best,\u201d then he said the UK is doing a \u201cfantastic\u201d thing.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer added that his Labour Government has returned \u201c35,000 [immigrants] who have no right to be here\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also suggested he would reduce the 50-day deadline for Russia to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The President said he was \u201cvery disappointed\u201d with Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought we had that settled numerous times, and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever,\u201d Trump said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to look and I\u2019m going to reduce that 50 days that I gave him to a lesser number, because I think I already know the answer, what\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister travelled to Scotland to meet the US President on day three of his Scotland visit on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that he will discuss Washington\u2019s work with partners in Qatar and Egypt during his talks with Trump and seek to determine what more can be done to urgently bring about a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>They will also discuss the recently agreed US-UK trade deal and the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>After their meeting, the world leaders travelled together for a further private engagement in Aberdeenshire.<\/p>\n<p>The US President will then travel to his second resort, Trump International Golf Links on the Menie Estate.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting comes after Trump briefly met European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen at his Turnberry golf course in Ayrshire on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>They agreed to a trade deal setting a 15% tariff on most European Union goods. The 65-year-old has been released on an undertaking to appear at court at a later date.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cfestival of resistance\u201d is set to be held near the Aberdeenshire golf course on Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Organisers of the protest at The White Horse Inn, in Balmedie, said they object to the golf course receiving \u00a3180,000 of public funding for the Nexo Championship next month.<\/p>\n<p>Alena Ivanova of Stop Trump Scotland said: \u201cThis message is to Donald Trump but also our elected leaders preparing to meet him: there is no place for Trumpism in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to stand up to him instead of kowtowing to this bully \u2013 including by handing over hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayer money for a golf tournament hosted at Trump International even while he attempts to bully us with tariffs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of protesters gathered in both Edinburgh and Aberdeen on Saturday to voice their opposition to Trump\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n<p>A man was arrested after a disturbance on board a flight bound for Glasgow on Sunday.
