Over the weekend, users on the <a href=\"https:\/\/xdaforums.com\/t\/bootloader-unlocking-option-removed-from-one-ui-8-0.4751904\/#post-90208099\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">XDA Developers forum<\/a> noticed that Samsung appears to have disabled the option on devices in regions outside the US, where the option had already been locked for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">By unlocking the bootloader, users can install custom software and make other modifications to their phone. Users discovered the new restriction after digging into the code of the Settings app on One UI 8, which ships with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/phones\/701076\/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-flip-7-fe-hands-on\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">newly released Galaxy Z Flip 7<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/reviews\/709990\/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Z Fold 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1ymtmqpi _17nnmdy1 _17nnmdy0 _1xwtict1\">As pointed out by SammyGuru and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/samsung-bootloader-unlocking-disabled-one-ui-8-3581366\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Android Authority<\/a>, the code contains the line \u201candroidboot.other.locked=1.\u201d When this line is set to \u201c1,\u201d it means the bootloader is locked, like it is here in the US. Before One UI 8, this line had previously been set to \u201c0\u201d to enable bootloader unlocking in regions outside the US.
