{"id":300335,"date":"2025-07-29T05:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T05:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300335\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T05:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T05:00:10","slug":"warning-to-drivers-as-more-than-300-roads-in-glasgow-suburb-hit-with-new-20mph-speed-limit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300335\/","title":{"rendered":"Warning to drivers as more than 300 roads in Glasgow suburb hit with new 20mph speed limit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MORE than 300 roads in a Glasgow suburb are about to be hit with a new 20 miles per hour speed limit.<\/p>\n<p>It will come into effect on September 8 in Bearsden as council chiefs roll out the changes in a bid to improve <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/road-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">road safety<\/a> and reduce speeding. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20 mph speed limit signs on a road in Wales.\" height=\"640\" width=\"960\" data-credit=\"PA\" data-img=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20mph-road-signs-brynawel-wales-896290181.jpg\" data-caption=\"More than 300 roads in Bearsden will be affected by the change\"   loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/20mph-road-signs-brynawel-wales-896290181.jpg\" role=\"img\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>1<\/p>\n<p>More than 300 roads in Bearsden will be affected by the changeCredit: PA<\/p>\n<p>The new limit will cover all or part of over 300 roads in the town -including residential streets and main roads like the A81 Milngavie Road and the A739 Switchback\/Bearsden Road.<\/p>\n<p>A full list of the affected roads is available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk\/services\/a-z-of-services\/roads-pavements-transport\/traffic-regulation-orders\/notice-of-making-of-the-east-dunbartonshire-council-various-roads-bearsden-20-mph-speed-limit-order-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">East Dumbartonshire Council&#8217;s website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anyone who wants to challenge the new 20mph order can lodge an application with the Court of Session within six weeks of July 24.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a temporary road closure will affect Station Road in Bearsden from August 4 to September 22 to allow works to be carried out. <\/p>\n<p>READ MORE ON THE SCOTTISH SUN<\/p>\n<p>It will affect the town&#8217;s Station Road between its junction with the A809 Drymen Road and the entrance to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/co-op\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Co-op<\/a> car park.<\/p>\n<p>No vehicles will be allowed through, except those directly involved in the works.<\/p>\n<p>Diversion signs will be put in place. <\/p>\n<p>Temporary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/traffic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traffic<\/a> lights incorporating a pedestrian crossing will be in operation and manually controlled from 7am to 7pm throughout the entirety of the works. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/drivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Drivers<\/a> are being urged to plan ahead as traffic delays are likely. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/motors\/13787277\/speed-limit-changes-twenty-mph-scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">we told how speed limit changes were being rolled out across Scotland <\/a>after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thescottishsun.co.uk\/topic\/councils\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">councils<\/a> bagged new funding to make the nation&#8217;s roads safer.<\/p>\n<p>Scots driver speeds off after smashing into car &#8211;
