{"id":300566,"date":"2025-07-29T07:02:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T07:02:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300566\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T07:02:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T07:02:12","slug":"uk-car-market-set-for-strongest-year-since-before-covid-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/300566\/","title":{"rendered":"UK car market set for strongest year since before Covid pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The UK\u2019s car market is on track for its strongest year since before the coronavirus pandemic, according to new analysis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Online vehicle marketplace Auto Trader said it expects two million new and 7.75 million used cars to be sold across the whole of 2025, as older, budget-friendly models drive growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The total of 9.75 million would be a 3% increase on last year\u2019s figure of 9.5 million (1.9 million new and 7.6 million used).<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">It would also be the highest annual total since 10.3 million (2.4 million new and 7.9 million used) in 2019, before the virus crisis began.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Auto Trader said there was a surge in demand for used cars aged five to 10 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">It predicted that by the end of the year there will be 10.1 million of these cars on UK roads, up from 8.7 million in 2017.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Vehicles at least a decade old are expected to make up 26% of the 32.8 million cars licensed in the UK, compared with 23% in 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Auto Trader said disruption to new car production caused by the pandemic means there is a shortage of cars aged three to five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Ian Plummer, Auto Trader commercial director, said: \u201cUK car sales are on course to reach their highest level for six years, which is testament to the underlying strength of consumer demand.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen more than half a billion visits to our website in the first half of this year \u2013 an all-time high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cWhat\u2019s particularly striking is the surge in appetite for older, budget-friendly vehicles \u2013 especially those aged five to 10 years \u2013 which are now the fastest-selling part of the market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cThe Covid effect is still playing through the UK car market and will continue to do so for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Nearly a third of all Auto Trader advert views are for cars priced under \u00a37,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Sales of used cars in 2025 are up 2% year-on-year but the full-year for new car registrations is forecast to be flat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The UK\u2019s car market is on track for its strongest year since before the coronavirus pandemic, according to&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":300567,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[3,4],"tags":[111139,748,393,4884,1144,712,16,111140,15,1764],"class_list":["post-300566","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-uk","category-united-kingdom","tag-auto-trader","tag-britain","tag-england","tag-great-britain","tag-northern-ireland","tag-scotland","tag-uk","tag-uk-car-sales","tag-united-kingdom","tag-wales"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114935244003782654","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300566","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=300566"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300566\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/300567"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=300566"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=300566"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=300566"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
