{"id":301089,"date":"2025-07-29T11:38:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T11:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/301089\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T11:38:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T11:38:12","slug":"hundreds-of-nhs-jobs-face-the-axe-in-gloucestershire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/301089\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds of NHS jobs face the axe in Gloucestershire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Around 150-200 jobs could be lost<\/p>\n<p>11:44, 29 Jul 2025Updated 12:31, 29 Jul 2025<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_RGP_MDM_030123Hosp_03.jpg\" alt=\"Ambulances outside the A&amp;E at the Royal Gloucestershire Hospital in Gloucester as NHS services are believed to be under severe pressure.   &#10;Pic: Rowan Griffiths\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has also been tasked with reducing non-clinical roles.(Image: Rowan Griffiths \/ Daily Mirror)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Hundreds of non-clinical <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk\/all-about\/nhs\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">NHS <\/a>jobs are set to be cut in Gloucestershire in bid to reduce staff costs by 50 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk\/all-about\/labour-party\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Labour <\/a>Government announced plans in March to abolish NHS England and fully integrate it into the Department of Health and Social Care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And NHS England announced that the running costs of integrated care boards, who plan and commission health services across the country, would also<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gloucestershirelive.co.uk\/news\/gloucester-news\/push-cut-top-health-board-10169197\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> be reduced by around 50 per cent.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And in Gloucestershire there are plans to merge the ICB with the one in Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Councillor Andrew Gravells (C, Abbey) asked about the impact of the ICB reduction in staff expenditure by 50 per cent at the health overview and scrutiny committee this month. He asked: \u201cIn Gloucestershire, how many jobs are within that figure?<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Mary Hutton, outgoing chief executive of NHS Gloucestershire ICB, said it depends and it&#8217;s a range of jobs. However, it is estimated to be between 150 to 200 jobs, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Chairman Iain Dobie (LD, Charlton Park and College) asked if that was the reduction rather than the overall jobs currently. \u201cSo you have twice that number at the moment?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Cllr Gravells asked if that would be the case with the other ICBs Gloucestershire will merge with.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThat would be a lot of redundancies and a lot of worry and fear for the staff, obviously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIt\u2019s important that the staff are kept fully briefed. That is a huge number.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI\u2019m quite surprised by the size of the reduction in terms of staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753789092_619_1_RGP_MDM_030123Hosp_03.jpg\" alt=\"Ambulances outside the A&amp;E at the Royal Gloucestershire Hospital in Gloucester as NHS services are believed to be under severe pressure.   &#10;Pic: Rowan Griffiths\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>File image of GRH(Image: Rowan Griffiths \/ Daily Mirror)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Becky Parish, associate director, engagement and experience, spoke as a member of ICB staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cWe are getting regular communications from Mary, colleagues, directors as soon as they hear anything we are hearing about it as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThat\u2019s been the case ever since the announcement in March. It\u2019s not easy news to be hearing but we are hearing everything as quickly as we possibly can, just to reassure you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive Kevin McNamara also told the meeting they have been asked to reduce the number of non-clinical roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cLike elsewhere in the NHS, the significant financial savings required to be able to deliver a balanced plan this year of \u00a342m, you\u2019ve heard from Mary about the headcount reduction or the work to reduce the cost base in the ICB.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAt the time that was announced nationally for ICBs, there was also a national ask for trusts like ourselves to reduce the growth in non-clinical functions that we experienced since Covid by 50 per cent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThat is a not insignificant ask of us.
