\n A French<\/a> resort town has introduced fines for people found to be walking around topless or in their swimsuits<\/a> anywhere other than on the beach.\n <\/p>\n \n Authorities in Les Sables d\u2019Olonne, located in the Vend\u00e9e region on France\u2019s Atlantic coast, have announced fines of up to 150 euros ($175) for those walking around the town \u201chalf-naked,\u201d according to a Facebook post<\/a> from mayor Yannick Moreau, published Tuesday.\n <\/p>\n \n Railing against topless men, Moreau criticized the \u201cindecent behavior.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cIt\u2019s a question of respect for locals who don\u2019t want people wandering around their town half naked,\u201d he wrote.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cIt\u2019s also a rule for basic hygiene in our markets, our shops and our streets,\u201d added Moreau, who called on local police to ensure that the rule is enforced.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cIf you want to show off your pecs and your best swimming shorts in Les Sables d\u2019Olonne there are 11 kilometers of beach at your disposal,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n \n Moreau\u2019s post was accompanied by an image of a poster announcing the fine, alongside the tagline \u201cIn Les Sables d\u2019Olonne, respect doesn\u2019t go on holiday.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n The move appears to have been well received, with many Facebook users leaving positive comments under the mayor\u2019s post.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cThank you mayor. I find this completely intolerable,\u201d wrote Dominique Camio-Martial.\n <\/p>\n \n Claire Gourlaouen added: \u201cMy parents are shopkeepers, sometimes they ask people to get dressed.\u201d\n <\/p>\n \n However, some suggested there are more important things to worry about, such as dealing with crime.\n <\/p>\n \n Les Sables d\u2019Olonne is the latest in a string of French towns cracking down on what is seen as disrespectful behavior.\n <\/p>\n \n In Arcachon, another popular holiday spot on the west coast, authorities have also introduced a 150 euro fine for anyone walking around town in a state of undress.\n <\/p>\n \n In the south of the country, the town of La Grande-Motte has also introduced a 150 euro fine for scanty dress in any part of the town other than the beach or its seafront promenade.\n <\/p>\n \n And it\u2019s not just France that is trying to improve visitors\u2019 behavior.\n <\/p>\n \n In 2023, authorities in the Spanish city of Malaga announced that anyone seen in the street or public spaces without clothes, or wearing only underwear, would face a fine of up to \u20ac750 ($874).\n <\/p>\n![\"A](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/yannickmoreau85-1753176988-3682237924506653979-5955634318.jpg\")
