{"id":301242,"date":"2025-07-29T12:59:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T12:59:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/301242\/"},"modified":"2025-07-29T12:59:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T12:59:18","slug":"tuv-call-new-border-post-in-larne-a-day-of-humiliation-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/301242\/","title":{"rendered":"TUV call new border post in Larne \u2018a day of humiliation\u2019 \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/jim-allister\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/jim-allister\/\">TUV leader Jim Allister<\/a> has described the opening of a new border control post in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/larne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/larne\/\">Larne<\/a> Port as \u201ca day of humiliation\u201d for Northern Ireland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In a statement on Monday, Mr Allister set out his complaints as \u201cthe first major permanent border control post\u201d was scheduled to come into effect in Larne Port.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">As part of the post-Brexit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/windsor-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/windsor-framework\/\">Windsor Framework<\/a>, it was agreed that inspection facilities would be constructed in Belfast, Larne, Warrenpoint and Foyle for certain goods entering Northern Ireland from Britain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">With arrangements in Foyle and Warrenpoint already in place, the go-live date for Larne was Monday, with Belfast Port to follow on August 11.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/ian-rutledge-maguiresbridge-shooting-suspect-dies-in-hospital-WGIJZTHRWVGJ7J6QYKRTLBYDJM\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Ian Rutledge: Maguiresbridge shooting suspect dies in hospital\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753793956_990_UMBR3EASIBBRXEAVMIJR5T5JEU.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/northern-ireland\/emma-little-pengelly-to-face-stormont-committee-scrutiny-for-cost-of-wimbledon-trip-UXG7E7HVKRAQXFH2KPRHWLZI54\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Emma Little Pengelly to face Stormont committee scrutiny for cost of Wimbledon trip \" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753793957_546_DMMDOLL2RRDYHBG4557X32GD3Q.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Earlier this year, a new agri-food deal between the EU and UK pledged to greatly reduce the requirements for checks on animal and plant products (Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary) \u2013 but this could still take months to implement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A UK government spokesperson told The Irish News: \u201cWe are committed to implementing the Windsor Framework in good faith and taking all steps necessary to protect the UK\u2019s internal market.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cOur new SPS Agreement, once agreed and implemented, will cut paperwork and checks for goods moving from Great Britain to Northern Ireland. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIn order to secure that agreement, it is vital that we implement existing arrangements, and we will continue to work closely with businesses to support them in doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">They added that some checks, including those on live animals, will still be necessary as was the case pre-Brexit.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"TUV leader and North Antrim MP Jim Allister speaking, at the Ulster Farmers&#x2019; Union rally at the Eikob Exhibition Centre, Lisburn, Co Antrim.
