And while <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/travel\/visited-one-wales-most-popular-29881462\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">some destinations are an obvious choice for travellers<\/a>, one seaside town might have escaped your radar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you&#8217;re planning a Welsh <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/staycation-week\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">staycation<\/a> or day trip over the summer holidays, heading to a lesser-known location and escaping the masses of crowds you might find in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/travel\/visited-one-wales-most-popular-29881462\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tenby<\/a> or <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/barry\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Barry<\/a> could also make for a more tranquil experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">HomeToGo has published a compilation of underappreciated European destinations, settlements and villages frequently ignored by tourists that merit exploration, with Beaumaris in Wales securing a position within the top 10, reports <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/travel\/articles\/2080141\/europes-hidden-gems-beaumaris-wales\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The European Hidden Gem Index evaluated 50 locations described as &#8220;Europe&#8217;s best-kept secrets&#8221;, ranking destinations according to various criteria including the climate, accommodation costs, dining opportunities and natural beauty.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Featuring a diverse blend of medieval, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture, HomeToGo described Beaumaris as a perfect destination &#8220;for the explorer who&#8217;s enchanted by rugged shorelines, medieval castles and boat trips to wild islands&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Situated on <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/anglesey\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Anglesey<\/a>, which The Telegraph recently crowned <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/angleseys-wow-factor-beach-nothing-31607040\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Britain&#8217;s finest island<\/a>, Beaumaris also received an impressive 9.48 out of 10 rating for its landscape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A World Heritage Site, Beaumaris Castle was built between 1295 and 1330, and despite remaining incomplete, it&#8217;s frequently hailed as a masterpiece and amongst the finest Edwardian castles in Wales.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Also referred to as the greatest castle never completed, it was the final and most substantial of the fortresses erected by King Edward I in Wales, and it&#8217;s regularly celebrated for its almost flawless symmetry.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_Beaumaris-Castle.jpg\" alt=\"Beaumaris, Anglesey, Wales on 19th July 2023: Beaumaris Castle is located on the Isle of Anglesey overlooking the Menai Straits\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Beaumaris Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site(Image: GordonBellPhotography via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, it&#8217;s not solely about castles, as the charming coastal town sits on the banks of the Menai Strait. Maritime excursions run by Sea Coast Safaris enable tourists to view Beaumaris from the water, sailing past Victorian jetties, the town&#8217;s own Millionaires Row and The Swellies, recognised as the most dangerous stretch of the Menai Strait.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Puffin Island is also accessible from Beaumaris.
