I\u2019LL miss Lucho.<\/strong><\/p>\n I know all the arguments. A phenomenal fee for a 28-year-old who doesn\u2019t want to be here, more chances for Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike and Rio Ngumoha and another opportunity to upgrade, but I\u2019ll miss him all the same. The goals against United and Spurs (the majority of which were given despite VAR) in particular.<\/p>\n I always feel a bit sad when a Champion leaves. I know it\u2019s a business and we must keep moving forward etc, but it reminds me that it\u2019s a job to most players and theirs is a short career window. That\u2019s a little saddening.<\/p>\n Another player heads for the exit. Another out the door, though possibly holding it open for any Swedish strikers who may be passing. No, I don\u2019t mean Tomas Brolin.<\/p>\n We\u2019ll all have to wait on that front, though it\u2019s expected that we\u2019ll be making a bid this week. That\u2019ll probably be rejected (I would if I were Newcastle United, just out of sheer truculence) before reason will find its seat.<\/p>\n I love getting the business done and, what\u2019s more, getting it done so early. This makes such a change from the days when we were content just to monitor any options before turning our backs sniffily. God, we loved a good old monitor.<\/p>\n As ridiculous as it sounds, I hope we\u2019re not declaring yet. We still need to work on further signings. We desperately need a new centre-half, and the talk of Marc Guehi has gone a bit quiet. Meanwhile Jorrel Hato has been making eyes at Chelsea. He could be the signing of the season, or he could be Leny Yoro.<\/p>\n (I mean, Yoro\u2019s alright, but I was deeply invested in him before he went there, and I now feel personally aggrieved. See also Charlie Adam who didn\u2019t become the Michel Platini figure I\u2019d hoped he\u2019d be when he dominated the Anfield turf in his Blackpool days).<\/p>\n There\u2019s a danger of having too many new faces. The club spent like drunken sailors in the summer of 2014, with seven starters coming in on the back of the Suarez money. Suffice to say the following season was forgettable at best.<\/p>\n But this feels different. With the greatest of respect to them, we\u2019re no longer rifling through Southampton\u2019s squad looking for bargains these days.\u00a0<\/p>\n Nowadays we\u2019re both monitoring and signing the best players in Europe. If we could add Alexander Isak then all the better.<\/p>\n It\u2019s mad all this. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing Florian Wirtz and was so excited at his signing. Now he almost seems like old news.<\/p>\n This new squad seems like an upgrade on last season\u2019s and last season\u2019s won the league. Last season we had Lucho.<\/p>\n Ah, Lucho. I\u2019ll miss him and his wonderful grimace.<\/p>\n But you\u2019re right. We can\u2019t stand still. There\u2019s work to be done and the hustle never ends. I do hope we\u2019re addressing the centre-back issue though. One would be great but two would be perfect.<\/p>\n Isn\u2019t this great?\u00a0<\/p>\n I always look forward to a new season, but this one already feels special.<\/p>\n
