At least one year of ongoing employment with the same employer or a related employer in an EU country is required.<\/p>\n<p>Physical relocation is not required, but the employee must occupy a position with the Canadian branch of the company.<\/p>\n<p>Graduate trainees are also eligible to apply under this category, provided they have a qualifying degree (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/levels-of-post-secondary-study-in-canada.html#:~:text=the%20receiving%20institution.-,Bachelor%27s%20Degree,-Approximately%20four%20to\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bachelor\u2019s<\/a>\/baccalaureate) or a license at a professional level which is aligned with the intra-company activity. Their transfer should be for career development or training purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investors<\/strong>: Executives, supervisors, or individuals with specialized skills who have made or are actively making a substantial investment in a new or existing Canadian business. Investors may only seek entry through this category to develop and direct the operations of the business.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify, you must own at least 50% interest in the enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>An offer of employment from an enterprise that has nationality in an EU member state is required. Nationality is dictated by ownership, not through the enterprise\u2019s place of incorporation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Professionals<\/strong>: Contractual service suppliers or independent (self-employed) professionals possessing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/levels-of-post-secondary-study-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">university degree<\/a> or equivalent qualification, professional certifications required for the role, and related work experience\u2014three years for contractual service suppliers; six years for independent professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Further, contractual service suppliers must have worked for an EU company (which holds a service contract in Canada) for at least one year prior to applying, while independent professionals need to show they have a signed contract between themselves and the Canadian service consumer.<\/p>\n<p>As a professional, you can supply services for a maximum of 12 months.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technologists<\/strong>: Engineering and scientific technologists who have been employed by an EU company for at least one year prior to applying and have a service contract in Canada\u2014which cannot exceed 12 months total in duration. You are expected to fulfill all professional licensing and\/or certification requirements for your occupation.<\/p>\n<p>Technologists must have a minimum of three years of professional experience in a relevant sector and a post-secondary education spanning no less than three years and culminating in a degree. IRCC will reach out to you and inform you if you must do so.<\/p>\n<p>Work permit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canada-immigration-processing-times.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">processing times<\/a> vary by country, but you can typically expect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2025\/03\/how-to-avoid-the-risk-of-your-immigration-application-getting-refused-0352919.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">receive a decision<\/a> on your application within one week to three months.<\/p>\n<p>Can my spouse apply for an Open Work Permit?<\/p>\n<p>Under CETA, spouses and common-law partners (\u201cspouses\u201d) of<strong> intra-company transferees<\/strong> may be eligible for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-immigration-open-work-permits.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open work permit<\/a> (OWP) with the same validity period as the intra-company transferee\u2019s permit.<\/p>\n<p>Spouses of CETA permit applicants applying under other categories are not eligible to obtain an OWP under CETA.<\/p>\n<p>They may, however, be able to obtain an OWP not connected to CETA provided both of you meet the eligibility requirements listed below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CETA permit holder<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You possess a valid work permit or have an approved work permit yet to be issued;<\/li>\n<li>Your work permit will remain valid for at least 16 months after IRCC received your spouse\u2019s OWP application;<\/li>\n<li>You are or will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/finding-work-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">employed<\/a> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/noc2021.html#:~:text=Matching%20NOC%202016%20to%20NOC%202021%20and%20understanding%20the%20new%20TEER%20system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TEER<\/a>* 0 or 1 occupation, or a qualifying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2025\/01\/these-are-the-teer-2-and-3-jobs-that-can-still-get-your-spouse-a-family-open-work-permit-0150760.html#:~:text=TEER%202%20jobs%20still%20eligible%20for%20a%20family%20OWP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TEER 2<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cicnews.com\/2025\/01\/these-are-the-teer-2-and-3-jobs-that-can-still-get-your-spouse-a-family-open-work-permit-0150760.html#:~:text=TEER%203%20jobs%20still%20eligible%20for%20a%20family%20OWP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3<\/a> occupation at the time your spouse applies for an OWP; and<\/li>\n<li>You are, or plan to be, physically present in Canada while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/working-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">working<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Spousal requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They meet the general eligibility requirements for a work permit;<\/li>\n<li>They are in a genuine relationship with the CETA permit holder (you); and<\/li>\n<li>If they are present in Canada, they fall into one of the following three situations.\n<ul>\n<li>They have valid temporary resident status;<\/li>\n<li>They are in Canada on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/implied-status-in-canada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">maintained status<\/a>; or<\/li>\n<li>They are eligible to have their temporary resident status restored (as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/canadian-temporary-resident-visa-visitor.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visitor<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/temporary-foreign-worker-program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worker<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/study-in-canada-options.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">student<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*Under Canada\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/noc2021.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Occupational Classification<\/a> (NOC), jobs are categorized into six levels (TEER 0 to TEER 5) based on the required Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities \u2014 with TEER 0 representing the highest-skilled roles and TEER 5 the lowest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bottom-btn\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"color: #ffffff; background: #e52237;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canadavisa.com\/wpteam.html?utm_source=cicnews.com&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=2025-07-28_eu-citizens-of-these-countries-can-obtain-lmia-exempt-work-permits_58119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Schedule a Free Work Permit Consultation with the Cohen Immigration Law Firm<br \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Citizens of certain European Union (EU) member states have an advantage when seeking Canadian work permits.
