The incident occurred near George Street Bridge at the banks of the River Usk on Friday, July 26.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The footage clearly showed the woman casually walking up to the riverbank and kneeling down before emptying the large shopping bag of its contents and returning to a car which was waiting for her. A significant amount of waste was illegally disposed of in the shocking incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">An eyewitness alleged a full black bag\u2019s worth of waste was thrown into the river minutes before. <strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Never miss a Newport story by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/newsletter-preference-centre\/?view=Solus&amp;mailingListId=4151b91b-7951-45c8-9884-6e260b19d0e8&amp;utm_source=solusarticle\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">subscribing to our newsletter here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The city council has informed Natural Resources Wales and Fly-tipping Action Wales of the latest incident and is conducting its own investigation to try to track down the woman responsible.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_290725flytippingriverusknewport_02.jpg\" alt=\"The image shows the woman with her back to the camera\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>She then stands up and brazenly walks back to a car which is waiting for her(Image: Anonymous\/Facebook)<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_290725flytippingriverusknewport_03.jpg\" alt=\"The image shows bits of paper, cardboard and cards in the river\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Some of what she released into the River Usk(Image: Anonymous\/Facebook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The River Usk is a designated site of special scientific interest and is also a special area of conservation and yet it remains one of the UK\u2019s most polluted rivers and many parts of it are unsafe to enter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Standing beside the banks of the Usk near <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/newport\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Newport<\/a> city centre it\u2019s clear the incident isn\u2019t isolated. Visible are trolleys and children\u2019s toys among other discarded items in the mud beside the river.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Angela Jones, who has long campaigned for better river health, said: \u201cSo many of us work tirelessly to protect our rivers and hold big polluters to account and then we see things like this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis disregard for nature comes from people of all ages and backgrounds. It\u2019s a total disgrace.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We all share this planet. Let\u2019s be kind, show respect and protect the beauty that nature so generously offers us.
