President Donald Trump<\/a> didn’t visit with King Charles<\/a> and the royal family during his trip to Scotland<\/a> this week, but he did have plenty of praise for them while meeting with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer.\n<\/p>\n During the leaders’ joint press conference on Monday, Trump said, “Being with Charles, Camilla and everybody, I’ve got to know a lot of the family members. They are great people. They are really great people.”\n<\/p>\n “In that sense, I think the U.K. is very lucky; you could have people that weren’t great people,” the president continued. “I don’t know if I can say that, but you could have people that weren’t.”\n<\/p>\n President Trump, 79, has previously spoken highly of the late Queen Elizabeth<\/a>, including a tribute to her<\/a> after her death in September 2022.\n<\/p>\n “Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty\u00a0Queen Elizabeth<\/a>\u00a0II,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief.”\n<\/p>\n From left: Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth, Melania Trump, King Charles and Queen Camilla in June 2019.<\/p>\n DOUG MILLS\/POOL\/AFP via Getty<\/p>\n Trump continued: “Queen Elizabeth’s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women.”\n<\/p>\n After her death, however, several reports claimed that Queen Elizabeth “didn’t like” Trump<\/a> and found him to be “rude.”<\/a>\n<\/p>\n Trump will connect with the royal family again during his\u00a0official state visit in September<\/a>. It will be a second and unprecedented state visit for Trump, after\u00a0he visited\u00a0<\/a>the late\u00a0Queen Elizabeth\u00a0in 2019 during his first term as president.\n<\/p>\n After Starmer first\u00a0issued the invitation<\/a>\u00a0on behalf of the King in February, a formal letter of invitation \u2014 known as a “manu regia” \u2014 signed by the monarch was hand-delivered to the White House by British officials in Washington last month. The president and First Lady\u00a0Melania Trump<\/a>\u00a0will visit with the royal family at Windsor Castle from Sept. 17 to 19.\n<\/p>\n A palace aide said at the time, “His Majesty has known President Trump for many years and looks forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.”\n<\/p>\n Can’t get enough of PEOPLE’s Royals coverage? Sign up for our free Royals newsletter<\/a> to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more!<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Donald Trump in February 2025.<\/p>\n Carl Court – Pool\/Getty<\/p>\n However, the\u00a0Daily Beast<\/a>\u00a0reported this week that the King and his inner circle are \u201cvery concerned\u201d\u00a0about Trump’s potential behavior during the visit, given the president’s recent\u00a0mockery of Canada<\/a>\u00a0and comments on immigration in the U.K.\n<\/p>\n After Air Force One touched down at Glasgow Airport on Friday, Trump wasted no time commenting on immigration.\n<\/p>\n \u201cYou better get your act together or you\u2019re not going to have Europe anymore,” he told reporters. “You\u2019ve got to stop this horrible invasion that is happening to Europe, many countries in Europe.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cSome leaders have not let it happen, and they\u2019re not getting the proper credit,\u201d Trump added. \u201cI could name them to you right now, but I\u2019m not going to embarrass the other ones.
