They are great people. They are really great people.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;In that sense, I think the U.K. is very lucky; you could have people that weren&#8217;t great people,&#8221; the president continued. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know if I can say that, but you could have people that weren&#8217;t.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_8-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> President Trump, 79, has previously spoken highly of the late <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/queen-elizabeth\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth<\/a>, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/donald-trump-reacts-to-news-of-queen-elizabeth\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tribute to her<\/a> after her death in September 2022.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/queen-elizabeth\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth<\/a>\u00a0II,&#8221; Trump wrote on Truth Social. &#8220;Together with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sorrow and grief.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p> From left: Donald Trump, Queen Elizabeth, Melania Trump, King Charles and Queen Camilla in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p>DOUG MILLS\/POOL\/AFP via Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Trump continued: &#8220;Queen Elizabeth&#8217;s historic and remarkable reign left a tremendous legacy of peace and prosperity for Great Britain. Her leadership and enduring diplomacy secured and advanced alliances with the United States and countries around the world. However, she will always be remembered for her faithfulness to her country and her unwavering devotion to her fellow countrymen and women.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> After her death, however, several reports claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/queen-elizabeth-didnt-like-donald-trump-new-documentary-claims-8706160\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth &#8220;didn&#8217;t like&#8221; Trump<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/queen-elizabeth-found-donald-trump-very-rude-new-book-claims-8698068\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found him to be &#8220;rude.&#8221;<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Trump will connect with the royal family again during his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/president-donald-trump-melania-set-for-state-visit-uk-this-year-king-charles-11760750\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official state visit in September<\/a>. It will be a second and unprecedented state visit for Trump, after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/royals\/queen-elizabeth-donald-trump-meet-buckingham-palace-state-visit-amid-protests\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he visited\u00a0<\/a>the late\u00a0Queen Elizabeth\u00a0in 2019 during his first term as president.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> After Starmer first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/king-charles-invites-donald-trump-unprecedented-second-state-visit-uk-11687759\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued the invitation<\/a>\u00a0on behalf of the King in February, a formal letter of invitation \u2014 known as a &#8220;manu regia&#8221; \u2014 signed by the monarch was hand-delivered to the White House by British officials in Washington last month.
