{"id":303001,"date":"2025-07-30T04:36:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T04:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/303001\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T04:36:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T04:36:13","slug":"liverpool-owners-fsg-in-talks-to-take-over-spanish-club-liverpool-fc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/303001\/","title":{"rendered":"Liverpool owners FSG in talks to take over Spanish club &#8211; Liverpool FC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are currently in talks with the president of top-tier Spanish club Getafe over what is projected as a staged takeover.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>FSG have been exploring the possibilities with regards purchasing at least one more football club for over a year, which has led them to assess a number of markets.<\/p>\n<p>Following a failed bid for struggling French side Bordeaux last summer, the American owners have turned their focus to Spain.<\/p>\n<p>That has seen FSG open talks with Angel Torres, owner and president of LaLiga side Getafe, over a staged takeover which could be worth \u00a3100 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6523321\/2025\/07\/29\/fsg-liverpool-getafe-multi-club\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Athletic<\/a> reports that this comes with Torres, the 73-year-old who has owned the club since 2002, eager to oversee the completion of his new stadium project by 2028.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/ESP-00006264_1010162208-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"16.10.2010, Vicente Calderon Stadion, Madrid, ESP, Primera Division, Atletico Madrid vs FC Getafe, im Bild Atletico de Madrid's President Enrique Cerezo (l) and Getafe's President Angel Torres (c) and Getafe City's Mayor Pedro Castro. The day the construction is finished and the stadium is inaugurated, I\u2019ll leave,\u201d the Spanish businessman said of the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll try to find a replacement first so I can leave it in good hands. I\u2019m not going to leave it to just anyone; it\u2019s going to be difficult.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FSG could potentially stagger their investment, first as minority shareholders before eventually taking over ownership, to match with Torres\u2019 long-term plans.<\/p>\n<p>Liverpool\u2019s owners were first reported to be exploring the purchase of Getafe last month, with Spanish newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.marca.com\/futbol\/getafe\/2025\/06\/17\/duenos-liverpool-vienen-comprar-laliga-getafe-preferido.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MARCA<\/a> revealing their interest following the breakdown of a move to take over Segunda Division side Malaga.<\/p>\n<p>Levante, Elche, Espanyol and Real Valladolid have also been analysed for their suitability as part of FSG\u2019s plans for a multi-club setup.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/2025-04-27-445-Liverpool_Tottenham-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 27, 2025: Liverpool's owner John W.
