{"id":303011,"date":"2025-07-30T04:41:19","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T04:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/303011\/"},"modified":"2025-07-30T04:41:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T04:41:19","slug":"john-deacon-makes-rare-queen-contribution-with-brian-may-and-roger-taylor-for-signed-album","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/303011\/","title":{"rendered":"John Deacon makes rare Queen contribution with Brian May and Roger Taylor for signed album"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Deacon has made a rare contribution on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/queen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen<\/a> album with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/brian-may\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian May<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/roger-taylor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Taylor<\/a> for a signed album.<\/p>\n<p>For their first public project in decades, Deacon, May and Taylor have all written their signatures on a copy of Queen\u2019s seminal 1975 record \u2018A Night At The Opera\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Though Taylor and May regularly donate items for the charity, this is the first time Deacon has signed memorabilia since officially leaving the band in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been confirmed by the Mercury Phoenix Trust that the signatures are \u201c100 per cent authentic\u201d, having been signed in \u201cthe last two weeks\u201d \u2013 despite Deacon living anonymously for the last few decades.<\/p>\n<p>The album will be up for silent auction at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/freddie-mercury\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Freddie Mercury<\/a> Birthday Party in Montreux, a fundraiser for a charity set up in Mercury\u2019s name. It takes place at the Casino Barri\u00e8re Montreux on September 6, where Queen\u2019s legendary Mountain Studios was formerly located.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds will go towards HIV\/AIDS Awareness <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/national-aids-trust-on-importance-of-freddie-mercury-sharing-his-diagnosis-before-his-death-3104725\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in honour of Mercury\u2019s death from complications associated with the condition<\/a>.\u00a0You can find all auction bidding details <a href=\"https:\/\/www.queenonline.com\/news\/the-official-freddie-mercury-birthday-party-silent-auction\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Though the bassist is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/queens-brian-may-says-ex-bassist-john-deacon-still-has-a-yes-or-no-say-in-the-band-3805817\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still technically involved in the band<\/a>, he has not contributed to any of Queen\u2019s music since the death of frontman Freddie Mercury.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the setup, Brian May told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mojo4music.com\/articles\/stories\/brian-may-interviewed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mojo<\/a> last year that he and Taylor \u201cget messages that he\u2019s happy with what we\u2019re doing, but he doesn\u2019t want the stress of being involved creatively, and we respect that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>May also told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2023\/jul\/13\/brian-may-buckingham-palace-queen-reader-interview-micheal-eavis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Guardian<\/a>\u00a0in 2023 that Deacon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/brian-may-says-john-deacon-is-still-very-much-part-of-queen-3469551\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has a say in the band\u2019s business matters<\/a>, elaborating: \u201cIf we have any major decision, business-wise, it\u2019s always run past John. It doesn\u2019t mean he talks to us \u2013 generally he doesn\u2019t \u2013 but he will communicate in some way. He\u2019s still very much part of Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Taylor has previously said that, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/roger-taylor-says-queen-would-still-be-making-music-today-if-freddie-mercury-was-alive-2699258\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">were Mercury still alive, the band would still be making music.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMe and Freddie\u2026 he was my closest friend and we were very, very close,\u201d he told\u00a0BBC Radio 6 in 2020. \u201cWe came up together and we literally lived in each other\u2019s pockets and clothes some of the time!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he also said that it was unlikely that Deacon would have stayed in the band given his shyer personality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do believe we would still be doing stuff together because it was a great collaboration.
