The first-ever, long-awaited stage adaptation of\u00a0The Hunger Games will officially open later this year \u2013 and lead casting has been announced.<\/p>\n
Adapted by award-winning playwright Conor McPherson<\/a>\u00a0and directed by\u00a0Matthew Dunster<\/a>, the production is based on Suzanne Collins\u2019 first novel in her series, and the Lionsgate film. It\u2019ll play at the new Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre from October 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n The creative team has been workshopping the play for over a year, developing a theatrical approach to bring the world of Panem to life in an immersive, in-the-round setting.\u00a0Watch a teaser video from the workshops here.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n Collins said she was excited for the adaptation and praised McPherson\u2019s script as distinct from the film\u2019s screenplay, adding: \u201cMatthew\u2019s immersive, dynamic staging gives the audience a brand-new way to experience the story.\u201d<\/p>\n Dunster teased: \u201cWe want to bring audiences something as impactful and edgy as Suzanne Collins\u2019 novel and as passionate and exciting as the movie. But we are going to do it in our own way \u2013 in the theatre. We want our Hunger Games to be uniquely, thrillingly theatrical.\u201d Dunster added that this version finds the \u201cyoung voice of Katniss Everdeen and puts her front and centre.\u201d<\/p>\n Find out more from McPherson as we asked him about the adaptation.<\/a><\/p>\n The central role of Katniss Everdeen will be played by Mia Carragher<\/a>.
