A campaign has begun to challenge the project, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/seven-sites-shortlisted-solar-farms-10115893\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"put forward by Bristol City LeapLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">put forward by Bristol City Leap<\/a>, to install a large number of solar panels on fields on the edge of Withywood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Bristol Live revealed the plans earlier this month, as City Leap &#8211; the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/seven-sites-shortlisted-solar-farms-10115893\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"city council\u2019s \u00a31bn partnership with US renewable energy provider AmerescoLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">city council\u2019s \u00a31bn partnership with US renewable energy provider Ameresco<\/a> &#8211; announced it would be holding a drop-in session to show what they want to do to local residents soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The plans would see the fields behind <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/horses-foodbanks-warm-welcomes-straight-8617919\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Hersey Gardens in WithywoodLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hersey Gardens in Withywood<\/a>, on the very south-western edge of Bristol, covered in solar panels which would generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 500 homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The land there, currently used <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/horses-foodbanks-warm-welcomes-straight-8617919\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"as paddocks for horsesLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">as paddocks for horses<\/a>, is within the City and County of Bristol and is owned by the city council. It is a north-facing slope as the Dundry Slopes rise up from Withywood and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/hartcliffe\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Hartcliffe<\/a> to Dundry, and is<a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/bristols-highest-point-disputed-not-10312945\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" part of the highest point of the cityLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\"> part of the highest point of the city<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But a petition has now been started, and around 150 people have signed it in just a few days. The <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/save-our-space-relocate-proposed-solar-farm-in-withywood\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"petition was set up on the Change.orgLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">petition was set up on the Change.org<\/a> website, by an anonymous person who named themselves \u2018Local Bristolian\u2019. Building a solar farm in such a location may not just pose risks to residential properties but also to the viability and safety of the solar installation itself.
