\"HullHull KR’s Sam Luckley has hailed one of his team-mates amid coaching speculation.<\/p>\n

Sam Luckley has hailed the influence of veteran hooker and team-mate Michael McIlorum at Sewell Group Craven Park, admitting the former England international has the “aura” of a future coach.<\/p>\n

In what was one of the most surprising transfers of 2025, McIlorum\u2019s move to Hull KR<\/a> has helped deliver instant success, with the experienced hooker playing a role in ending the club\u2019s long wait for silverware. The Robins are also currently top of the Super League table and on course to win their first-ever League Leaders\u2019 Shield as things stand.<\/p>\n

A no-nonsense, hard-hitting nine, McIlorum arrived at Hull KR boasting more than 350 career appearances and two Super League titles to his name, immediately taking on a leadership role in Willie Peters\u2019 side.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love him. He\u2019s class, he’s good crack and we get on really well,\u201d Luckley said of his team-mate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think having the wealth of knowledge that he\u2019s got and the amount of games he\u2019s played in – when he speaks everybody listens. Sometimes it\u2019s just little gems that he comes out with and you can kind of see the old-school Wigan mindset when he\u2019s speaking, so it\u2019s really good.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s great to have around and the same with Jared [Waerea-Hargreaves] as well, when you\u2019ve got players who have been there and done that, it adds so much to the group – not even just playing, but around the place, in video sessions and stuff. He\u2019s really good to have around.\u201d<\/p>\n

McIlorum will leave Rovers at the end of the current campaign and return to France, confirmed by the player himself back in March when speaking to All Out Rugby League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He is expected to join Joel Tomkins\u2019 new-look coaching setup at Catalans Dragons<\/a>, with the former Wigan Warriors back-rower recently confirmed as the French club\u2019s new head coach on a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be surprised,\u201d Luckley said. \u201cHe\u2019s just got a bit of an aura about him, kind of what a coach does when they walk into the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows what he\u2019s talking about, so I wouldn\u2019t be surprised. I guess he\u2019s not really thinking about that at the minute, we\u2019ve got 10 games left or something like that, everyone\u2019s focused on the one goal.
