\n The two-storey building, near the hospital\u2019s South Entrance, will feature a hybrid theatre and modern high-tech MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) suite.\n<\/p>\n
\n Hospital bosses have said the new development will \u201cbring cutting-edge care even closer to home\u201d for its patients and cut waiting times.\n<\/p>\n
\n The new facility means patients can expect \u201cmore timely care and access to some of the latest healthcare technologies\u201d, said the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital.\n<\/p>\n
\n Once complete, the facility will deliver \u201chigh-quality treatment in a purpose-built environment, tailored to meet the needs of the local community\u201d, a trust spokesperson said.\n<\/p>\n
\n The hybrid theatre will support more complex vascular procedures, while the spacious MRI suite will offer enhanced imaging capabilities.\n<\/p>\n
\n Meanwhile, the new MRI suite will be able to deliver urgent fast track scans for patients on cancer pathways and for patients requiring routine scans.\n<\/p>\n
\n York Hospital is working with its construction partner, Merit, for the build.\n<\/p>\n
\n The trust spokesperson said the company is using \u201coffside building methods\u201d to ensure the build can progress quicker and with \u201cminimal disruption on site\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n They said the new centre has been designed with sustainability at its core and will be low-carbon, fully electric, and energy-efficient, \u201csupporting the NHS\u2019s vision of a greener healthcare future\u201d.\n<\/p>\n

\n Liz Hill, the trust\u2019s associate chief operating officer for surgery, said the \u201cexciting development\u201d will \u201callow us to treat more patients with the latest diagnostic and vascular care, while also improving the working environment for our colleagues\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n Karen Priestman, the trust\u2019s associate chief operating officer for Cancer, specialist and clinical support services, said the new \u201cstate-of-the-art\u201d MRI scanner will \u201cmake a significant difference to waiting times, which is vital\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n She said demand has been growing for MRI scans and \u201cwe\u2019ve simply not had the capacity to meet it\u201d.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe\u2019re also planning to upgrade two additional MRI machines, which will further expand access for patients,\u201d Ms Priestman added.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cLooking ahead, the new scanner is compatible with artificial intelligence technologies, paving the way for even more advanced diagnostics in the future.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
