\n\tComing off the release of her Fancy That mixtape in May, PinkPantheress<\/a> believes that she\u2019s been overlooked for certain career opportunities, and how that comes with being a Black woman making electronic music. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe U.K. artist spoke with The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> on Tuesday (July 29), during which the 24-year-old was candid about her feelings that \u201cpeople are less willing to listen to electronic music that is made by a Black woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe continued: \u201cThat\u2019s just fact. There\u2019s some considerations I would like to get as an artist which I might not be getting right now, since maybe it\u2019s harder to put me into a genre.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPinkPantheress went on to explain how some of her artistic messages can get lost in translation since people don\u2019t understand what she represents. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019m in a very privileged position musically,\u201d she said. \u201cBut [I] can feel a little bit like I\u2019m hitting all these markers and it still feels like I\u2019m getting overlooked, simply because there\u2019s a lot of people that don\u2019t necessarily understand what I represent, nor do they want to take a look because I think it just doesn\u2019t make sense for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cBoys a Liar, Pt. 2\u201d singer shared that she looks to challenge the status quo when it comes to how a pop star is supposed to look. \u201cAll I aim to do is stay authentic and consistent,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd occasionally, what I enjoy doing is [saying], \u2018Well actually, I\u2019m gonna prove you wrong, and I\u2019m gonna do this, you are gonna like it.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPinkPantheress did, however, receive recognition from England\u2019s University of Kent when she received an honorary doctorate degree <\/a>earlier in July in recognition of her \u201ccontribution to and achievements in music in the digital age.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe experimental artist-producer released her\u00a0Fancy That\u00a0mixtape<\/a>\u00a0in May, which peaked at No. 4 on the Top Dance<\/a>\/Electronic Albums\u00a0chart.<\/p>\n
