A woman in her 20s has been arrested on suspicion of arson, after a fire in a block of flats in Bristol – which activated the sprinkler system and left water gushing from the building.<\/p>\n
Emergency services attended the scene at around 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, July 30, where water was pouring from a third-storey window.<\/p>\n
The sprinkler system successfully extinguished the fire, but also left the building flooded.<\/p>\n
And at around the same time, a woman was arrested outside on the street on suspicion of committing arson and criminal damage.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We received a call from the fire service at around 4.10pm to a residential property in Mary Bush Lane, Bristol.<\/p>\n
“Fire crews found significant flooding caused by a sprinkler which was set off by a small fire inside a flat.<\/p>\n
“A woman in her early 20s has been arrested on suspicion of committing arson and criminal damage.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue<\/a> Service said: “At 15:38 on Tuesday 30 July, crews from Temple, Bedminster<\/a>, and Southmead<\/a> fire stations were mobilised to reports of a fire in the Marybush Lane area of St Philip\u2019s, Bristol.<\/p>\n “On arrival, firefighters found that the building’s sprinkler system had successfully extinguished the fire. Crews isolated the sprinkler system and electrical supply to ensure the safety of the premises.<\/p>\n “A salvage unit has been deployed to assist with the safe containment and removal of water from the site. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, pending fire investigation.”<\/p>\n
