Lorenzo Musetti is looking to return to winning ways at the Canadian Open, after suffering from a period of mixed form while suffering with injury.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Italian has established himself as a certified top-10 player on the ATP Tour after a stellar first few months in 2025, which included a run to the semi-finals of the French Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old was forced to retire from that match with injury and has since struggled for form.<\/p>\n

Musetti was dumped out of Wimbledon in the first round and lost to Cameron Norrie in the second round of Washington<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Musetti, who is recognised for his aesthetically-pleasing groundstrokes, which include a beautiful one-handed backhand, has won his opening match at the Canadian Open<\/a>, defeating James Duckworth 7-5 6-1.<\/p>\n

After the match, Musetti spoke of his adaptation from the clay and grass surfaces to the American hard courts.<\/p>\n

The Italian registered an excellent serving performance against Duckworth, winning 90 per cent of his first serve points and a further 64 per cent on his second serve.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Tennis Channel following his victory, Musetti discussed an area of his game he is particularly working on ahead of the US Open.<\/p>\n

Musetti said: \u201cI think the biggest adjustments for me is try to adapt the speed of the court and you know on clay for example I have more time to think. Here you have to be a little bit more impulsive and have to say that\u2019s not really my game plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, for me, I have to change a little bit of my personality and my game style to adapt that kind of circumstances.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cBut today I think I really worked really well with the forehand and that something we\u2019re really working on.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most important thing for me is the serve and return. They are the keys, you know, to play good on this kind of surface.\u201d<\/p>\n

Musetti has won the most Masters 1000 matches in 2025<\/p>\n

Lorenzo Musetti has performed at a greater level than his peers at Masters 1000 events in 2025. In fact, he has outshone both Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> and Jack Draper. <\/p>\n

As per tennis blogger Mario Boccardi, Musetti has won 17 ATP Masters 1000 matches in 2025; two more than Carlos Alcaraz and Jack Draper, who both have 15.<\/p>\n

Musetti will have the opportunity to extend this lead in Canada. Both Alcaraz and Draper<\/a> withdrew from the tournament last week, meaning they have no chance of catching the Italian before August\u2019s Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n

In fact, Draper has no shot at catching Musetti until the US Open, as he has also withdrawn from Cincinnati.<\/p>\n
