(Photo by David Rawcliffe\/Propaganda)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-medium wp-image-324708\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>However, over 90-plus minutes in Yokohama that saw Liverpool navigate an awful pitch and an opponent already more than halfway through their season, the Dutchman could have spotted a number of headaches on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>Chief among those will have been an eye-catching display from Frimpong at right-back: the \u00a329.5 million signing from <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/bayer-leverkusen\/\" title=\"Bayer Leverkusen\" rel=\"noopener\">Bayer Leverkusen<\/a> was sharp and dynamic, ever willing to showcase his devastating pace, and architect of <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/trey-nyoni\/\" title=\"Trey Nyoni\" rel=\"noopener\">Trey Nyoni<\/a>\u2018s goal to make it 2-1.<\/p>\n<p>While Bradley is clearly more settled in the squad and the expectations of Slot\u2019s system, he was not the most effective of the two right-backs used on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>There could also be a doubt over whether Kerkez should be an immediate starter over Robertson, who has continued to stake his claim in pre-season and helped propel the counter that led to <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/rio-ngumoha\/\" title=\"Rio Ngumoha\" rel=\"noopener\">Rio Ngumoha<\/a>\u2018s stunning solo strike.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/P2025-07-30-Yokohama_Liverpool-53-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"YOKOHAMA, JAPAN - Wednesday, July 30, 2025: Liverpool's head coach Arne Slot gives instructions to Dominik Szoboszlai during the Meiji Yasuda J.League World Challenge 2025 match between Yokohama F. (Photo by David Rawcliffe\/Propaganda)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-medium wp-image-324699\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>In midfield, while many had already ruled Szoboszlai out of their ideal XIs following the club-record deal for Wirtz, the Hungarian\u2019s tempo-setting displays in a slightly deeper role could instead challenge Mac Allister\u2019s grip on the No. 8 spot.<\/p>\n<p>That particular situation will almost certainly be more fluid than others, not least as Gravenberch will be suspended for the opening game of the <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/premier-league\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> season at home to <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/bournemouth\" rel=\"noopener\">Bournemouth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It will no doubt be argued by some that Ngumoha, the precocious 16-year-old winger who has already scored twice this pre-season, should be starting ahead of Gakpo on the left flank, but Slot is unlikely to be as emphatic in his selection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRio, again, showed the quality he has and that\u2019s nice for us,\u201d the head coach told his post-match press conference.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a lot of very good players, but to get some very good players through the academy is always helpful, always gives energy to a team as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always nice to see young players from 16, 17 or 18 years old already impacting a game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut there was also a moment in the game where he should have squared it to Macca or Curtis, so also learning points for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if you are 16 and you can impact the game like he did, that\u2019s definitely worth a compliment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Exactly what Slot wants<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/P2025-07-30-Yokohama_Liverpool-83-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"YOKOHAMA, JAPAN - Wednesday, July 30, 2025: Liverpool's Florian Wirtz (C) celebrates after scoring his side's first equalising goal during the Meiji Yasuda J.League World Challenge 2025 match between Yokohama F. (Photo by David Rawcliffe\/Propaganda)\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-medium wp-image-324705\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>In reality, this will be the scenario Slot had been hoping for heading into Liverpool\u2019s unexpectedly busy summer transfer window.<\/p>\n<p>It has been maintained that the head coach, emboldened by his statement <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/premier-league\" rel=\"noopener\">Premier League<\/a> title triumph, is seeking two top options for each position in his squad.<\/p>\n<p>That means more competition for places and a less predictable starting lineup; the key names may remain, but there will be more rotation during a campaign in which Liverpool will hope to challenge for even more silverware including the <a data-ail=\"324726\" target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisanfield.com\/liverpool-fc\/champions-league\" rel=\"noopener\">Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The notion of a selection headache is one managers have scoffed at ever since the term was coined, because having more top-quality players than you can fit into one XI is always better than not having enough.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/P2025-07-29-Liverpool_Open_Training_Japan-59-600x400.jpg\" alt=\"TOKYO, JAPAN - Tuesday, July 29, 2025: Liverpool players during an open training session at the JFA Dream Field ahead of the Meiji Yasuda J.League World Challenge 2025 match between Yokohama F.
