{"id":305327,"date":"2025-07-31T01:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T01:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/305327\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T01:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T01:09:10","slug":"uks-catherine-chooses-fairy-costume-beatrix-potter-for-museum-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/305327\/","title":{"rendered":"UK&#8217;s Catherine chooses fairy costume, Beatrix Potter for museum display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON,\u00a0United Kingdom \u2014 A watercolour by beloved children&#8217;s author Beatrix Potter and a fairy costume for a 1960 ballet are among the objects chosen by Britain&#8217;s Princess Catherine for a display at an innovative UK museum.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine, the Princess of Wales also known as Kate, chose costumes, paintings and furniture\u00a0from the V&amp;A&#8217;s large collection for her &#8220;mini display&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The princess&#8217;s Makers and Creators display follows her visit to the museum&#8217;s storehouse and new &#8220;on-demand&#8221; visitor attraction last month.<\/p>\n<p>In a message from Kate, she wrote: &#8220;Objects can tell a story. A collection of objects can create a narrative, both about our past and as inspiration for the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Individual, unique objects can come together to create a collective whole that helps us to explore our social and cultural experiences and the role we play in the wider tapestry of life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Her selection of objects includes a blue-and-white Qing dynasty porcelain vase made between 1662 and 1722, a costume for the Fairy of the Woodland Glade by the designer Oliver Messel for the Royal Ballet&#8217;s 1960 production of &#8220;The Sleeping Beauty&#8221; and a watercolour painting of a forest glade by Potter.<\/p>\n<p>Other items highlight a handmade quilt from Wales dating from 1830 to 1840 and a 15th century earthenware tile from the southern country of Somerset.<\/p>\n<p>The mini display celebrates past creators and shows &#8220;how historic objects can influence fashion, design, film, art, and creativity today,&#8221; said the V&amp;A.<\/p>\n<p>It also mirrors Kate&#8217;s love of nature, and interest in nurturing educational development in young children.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will be able to examine the objects up close by using the free Order an Object service.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public can select items on the museum&#8217;s online catalogue and book an appointment to spend time with the objects with the help of a museum staff member.<\/p>\n<p>One fifth of the museum&#8217;s total collection is available to be viewed and enjoyed in the four-storey building on the former site of the 2012 London Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Catherine&#8217;s display will be available for viewing at the V&amp;A East Storehouse until early 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"LONDON,\u00a0United Kingdom \u2014 A watercolour by beloved children&#8217;s author Beatrix Potter and a fairy costume for a 1960&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":305328,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7708],"tags":[7709,7714,7713,533,2832,532,8606,2831,7710,519,7711,7712],"class_list":{"0":"post-305327","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-royals","8":"tag-british-royal-family","9":"tag-catherine","10":"tag-catherine-middleton","11":"tag-kate-middleton","12":"tag-prince-of-wales","13":"tag-prince-william","14":"tag-princess-kate","15":"tag-princess-of-wales","16":"tag-royal-families","17":"tag-royal-family","18":"tag-uk-royal-family","19":"tag-william"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@uk\/114945180517675850","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/305327","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=305327"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/305327\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/305328"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=305327"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=305327"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=305327"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
