Taron Egerton has the look and the swagger to be the next James Bond <\/a>\u2014 but the Kingsman<\/a> star isn\u2019t actually interested in taking on the now-vacant iconic role. In fact, he doesn\u2019t even think he\u2019s right for it. <\/p>\n

He flat out said no when asked in a recent interview with Collider<\/a> if he would try to get the part in the next film<\/a> and went on to explain: \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m a good choice for it. I think I\u2019m too messy for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Egerton, who played Elton John in the 2019 biopic Rocketman<\/a>, is a huge Bond fan, \u201cparticularly Daniel Craig\u2019s tenure\u201d as the British spy, but that doesn\u2019t mean he thinks he could take on the role.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think I wouldn\u2019t be good at it, and I think there\u2019s so many cool, younger actors who would be great for it,\u201d he said. \u201cI think it would be wasted on me, probably.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJames Bond is quite an undertaking and I think, one, as far as I\u2019m aware, nobody\u2019s asking me to do it,\u201d Egerton added. \u201cBut also, it\u2019s possibly not quite the thing that would make me happiest. I do think it\u2019s a big old undertaking, it kind of consumes your life, a role like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s not entirely wrong there. Bond has been played by several different actors over the years, and each of them has had \u201ctenure\u201d in the role that has lasted several years and films. Craig is the most recent, with his last film being 2021\u2019s No Time To Die<\/a>. <\/p>\n

That said, Egerton did mention that he\u2019d be up for a more \u201ccommercial\u201d role in the future. \u201cI think I\u2019m [in] a period in my life where, as you say, I\u2019ve been probably following the things that speak to me on a creative level a little bit more,\u201d he explained during the interview. \u201cBut, you know, I\u2019m sure I won\u2019t feel that way forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, new Bond custodian Amazon MGM Studios confirmed that Denis Villeneuve will direct the next 007 movie<\/a>. Villeneuve is of course the director of space epics Dune and Dune: Part Two, plus Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival.<\/p>\n

Early this year it was confirmed that Amazon had entered into an agreement with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the long-time producers and co-owners of the James Bond franchise, for Amazon to assume creative control of James Bond going forward.<\/p>\n

The wait for confirmation of the next Bond himself, however, continues, although one particular Brit has emerged as a clear fan favourite.<\/a> Until then, Villeneuve has one more Dune movie to make.<\/a><\/p>\n
