This year, it features a redesigned, fully recyclable, plastic-free poppy, which will be sold alongside the traditional version.

Volunteers are responsible for distributing nearly 35 million poppies and may serve in various roles — from street collectors to Poppy Appeal Organisers who coordinate teams, distribute poppy boxes and oversee collections.

Louise Dolen, community fundraiser for the Royal British Legion in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, said: “We would encourage anyone who is interested in volunteering for the Poppy Appeal anywhere in Bristol to get in touch with us to find out more.”

She added that there are several key locations still in need of lead organisers, including Asda Patchway, Bishopston and Horfield, Bristol Rovers Football Ground, Avonmouth, Shirehampton, Lockleaze and Cabot Circus.

“You will be fully supported in the role, including receiving training before the Poppy Appeal,” Louise said. “If you are well organised with excellent time management, capable of leading a small team, able to build key relationships and have strong verbal and written communications, a Poppy Appeal Organiser role may be perfect for you.”

Volunteering is promoted not just as a way to support a national cause, but also to meet new people and build useful skills such as public speaking and confidence.

The money raised supports the Armed Forces community with mental health support, employment advice, housing assistance and cost-of-living aid.

The Poppy Appeal dates back to 1921, when red silk poppies were first sold, raising over £106,000. Today, it remains the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign in the lead-up to Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

Anyone interested in volunteering can visit rbl.org.uk/poppyappealvolunteer or call 0345 845 1945.

Read all the latest news from in and around Bristol.

A fresh look for the iconic remembrance poppy is making headlines this year — but the Royal British…

[8818
381,33581,748,393,4884,12893,16,15
0":"post-305455","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-bristol","8":"tag-bristol","9":"tag-bristol-post","10":"tag-britain","11":"tag-england","12":"tag-great-britain","13":"tag-inyourarea-community","14":"tag-uk","15":"tag-united-kingdom
["GET
