{"id":305517,"date":"2025-07-31T02:53:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T02:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/305517\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T02:53:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T02:53:11","slug":"vague-trade-deal-allows-new-us-attacks-on-eu-tech-rules-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/305517\/","title":{"rendered":"Vague trade deal allows new US attacks on EU tech rules \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The EU\u2019s \u201cattack on our tech companies, that\u2019s going to be on the table,\u201d U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/video\/2025\/07\/29\/commerce-secretary-lutnick-the-key-to-why-the-eu-did-the-deal-is-autos-and-pharmaceuticals.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told CNBC on Tuesday<\/a>, asked whether Sunday\u2019s deal warranted further trade talks with the EU.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This underscores how the U.S. doesn\u2019t seem intent on backing down from its months-long campaign against the EU\u2019s rules on content moderation, digital competition and artificial intelligence \u2014 despite the bloc\u2019s insistence that its regulations are not up for negotiation as part of the trade talks. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even worse, lawmakers fear<strong> <\/strong>that the EU\u2019s executive has already given up some ground or that the U.S. will feel empowered by Sunday\u2019s deal to continue its criticisms.<\/p>\n<p>No concessions given<\/p>\n<p>The Commission was quick to point out that tech regulation was one of the areas where it had not given an inch, by excluding rulebooks like the <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/bills\/609148\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Services Act (DSA)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pro.politico.eu\/bills\/609150\/overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Digital Markets Act (DMA)<\/a> from the negotiating table. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is absolutely no commitment on digital regulation, nor on digital taxes,\u201d said a senior EU official on Monday. They added that the Commission\u2019s defense of the EU\u2019s autonomy to regulate hadn\u2019t received enough attention. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It seemed like a win for the EU.
