Stephen Colbert is getting support from his fans and peers following the news that his beloved Late Show is being scrapped.<\/p>\n

On the July 14 episode of his famed late-night talk show\u2014which debuted in 2015\u2014Colbert shamed Paramount for agreeing to a $16-million settlement in their 2024 lawsuit from Donald Trump, who accused CBS (which is owned by Paramount) of editing an interview with Kamala Harris\u2014then his rival for the presidency\u2014to portray her in a more favorable light. Originally, Paramount\u2019s legal team wrote that the suit was<\/a> \u201can affront to the First Amendment and is without basis in law or fact;\u201d but eventually, they settled with Trump, adding fuel to the MAGA leader\u2019s ongoing attach against the media.<\/p>\n

On air, Colbert called the move a \u201cbig, fat bribe<\/a>.\u201d A day later, Skydance Media CEO David Ellison met with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) leaders to discuss Skydance\u2019s proposed merger with Paramount. Two days after that, Paramount announced that they would be cutting Colbert\u2019s show, and some days after that, the FCC approved<\/a> Skydance\u2019s acquisition of Paramount.<\/p>\n

While Paramount has insisted<\/a> that canceling The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was \u201cpurely a financial decision,\u201d many in the media space\u2014including fellow show hosts\u2014as well as celebrities and fans of the show, simply don\u2019t buy it, and have rallied around Colbert to speak out on the snub.<\/p>\n

Late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Jon Stewart, and John Oliver attended Colbert\u2019s show last Monday to show their support<\/a>. Adam Sandler, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Andy Cohen, and Anderson Cooper were also there, and a crowd of protesters gathered<\/a> outside the Ed Sullivan Theater (where The Late Show films) to stand against Paramount\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

Other notable names who have criticized the cancellation of Colbert\u2019s show include iconic former show host David Letterman<\/a>, Michael Schur,<\/a> Julia Louis-Dreyfus,<\/a> Jamie Lee Curtis,<\/a> and Andy Richter<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Last week, The Bear star Molly Gordon<\/a> made an appearance on Colbert\u2019s show while wearing a white T-shirt that read \u201cI [heart] The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.\u201d And Colbert\u2019s former boss Jon Stewart, blasted a clear message for his bosses, \u201cGo fuck yourself<\/a>,\u201d while on the Paramount-owned Daily Show.<\/p>\n

In Colbert\u2019s words, \u201cthe gloves are off<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

A petition to save the show, with more than 250,000 signatures<\/a>, was delivered to Paramount. But as of now, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert will still come to an end in May 2026, after more than 10 years on air.<\/p>\n
