Fans have been left divided over the announcement of a Clueless television series at Peacock – with Alicia Silverstone<\/a> set to reprise her iconic role of Cher<\/a> Horowitz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The original 1995 movie, which is loosely based on Jane Austen’s novel Emma, also starred Paul Rudd<\/a>, late Brittany Murphy, Stacey Dash, Breckin Meyer and Donald Faison.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Silverstone, 48, is not only stepping back into the shoes of Cher,<\/a> but is also one of the executive producers on the upcoming project, per The Guardian<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The series will be written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage – who are both known for their involvement in past shows such as Gossip Girl and The O.C.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another writer joining the project is Jordan Weiss who recently worked on the Disney sequel Freakier Friday (2025).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amy Heckerling – who was the director of the 1995 cult classic – is also making a return and is an executive producer on the Peacock sequel series as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A fan shared, ‘I kinda need them to not touch this classic,’ and one X user typed out, ‘as long as Alicia is there, it might be good but Peacock doesn’t have a good track record when creating new shows.’<\/p>\n

During a past interview with Vogue <\/a>in 2023, Silverstone reflected on her initial reaction to the character of Cher – a wealthy Beverly Hills high school student.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘I found Cher on the page to be materialistic and unappealing. And really annoying, to be honest,’ the actress told the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘But I realized that was just me judging her. Once I started working on her I found all the heart and all the love.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

Clueless was a box office success upon its release in theaters and also garnered positive reviews from critics. The movie raked in $88 million on a budget of $12 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In regards to the leap of fame Alicia experienced due to the film’s success, the star admitted that it had been ‘really intense.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Crush actress added, ‘I didn’t expect any of the reaction that we got. It was a lot, and I think if anything it all pushed me away from doing this job for a while and got me so much more into my activism.<\/p>\n

‘But when I left, I realized, “Oh, well this isn’t me, that was Cher.”\u00a0So I couldn’t figure out how to wear them in real life and I gave them all away, sadly. No one has any idea where they’ve all gone.’<\/p>\n

In the movie, Cher falls for Josh Lucas – her former stepbrother – who was played by Paul Rudd.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In regards to her feelings towards her character falling for her former stepbrother, Silverstone said, ‘It wasn’t like she was raised with him for God’s sake. Her dad probably had so many different wives.’\u00a0<\/p>\n

She then added, ‘I’ve given it zero thought.\u00a0This right here is the most thought I’ve put into that.’\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

A teen sitcom that was based on the 1995 film was previously created and aired on both ABC and UPN networks for three seasons from 1996-1998.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rachel Blanchard, Stacey Dash, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan and David Lascher were some of the main cast that appeared in the show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
