The German government is\u00a0planning to\u00a0allocate approximately $9.7 billion in\u00a0military aid to\u00a0Ukraine in\u00a02026, according to\u00a0a\u00a0draft budget approved by\u00a0the German Bundestag, European Pravda reported on\u00a0July\u00a030.<\/p>\n

The aid package is\u00a0part of\u00a0a\u00a0broader draft federal budget for 2026, which outlines<\/a> total spending of\u00a0around $600 billion\u2014an increase of\u00a03.5% compared to\u00a02025. To\u00a0support the rising expenditures, Berlin plans to\u00a0borrow nearly $200 billion in\u00a02026, $35 billion more than the previous year.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s public investments are also set to\u00a0hit a\u00a0record high of\u00a0\u20ac145 billion in\u00a02026, marking an\u00a0increase of\u00a0$12.5 billion over 2025\u00a0levels.<\/p>\n

The most dramatic increase, however, comes in\u00a0defense spending. Germany plans to\u00a0boost its defense budget from $71.3 billion to\u00a0$94.5 billion, largely driven by\u00a0arms and ammunition procurement.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Berlin\u2019s medium-term fiscal outlook, the country\u2019s defense budget will continue to\u00a0grow annually, reaching 3.5% of\u00a0GDP by\u00a02029.<\/p>\n

The $9.7 billion earmarked for Ukraine is\u00a0consistent with earlier pledges, reinforcing Germany\u2019s role as\u00a0one of\u00a0Kyiv\u2019s top defense partners.<\/p>\n

Debate on\u00a0the 2026\u00a0budget is\u00a0expected to\u00a0begin in\u00a0the Bundestag in\u00a0late September, with final approval by\u00a0both houses of\u00a0parliament anticipated before the end of\u00a0the year.<\/p>\n

Earlier, reports emerged that Germany was launching<\/a> a\u00a0historic military spending spree, preparing over 60\u00a0major defense contracts\u2014including thousands of\u00a0armored vehicles, next-gen drones, and new Eurofighter jets\u2014aimed at\u00a0transforming the Bundeswehr into Europe\u2019s most powerful conventional army and reducing the continent\u2019s dependence on\u00a0US\u00a0defense systems.<\/p>\n
