{"id":30694,"date":"2025-04-18T16:49:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-18T16:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/30694\/"},"modified":"2025-04-18T16:49:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-18T16:49:08","slug":"we-want-french-nukes-polish-president-says-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/30694\/","title":{"rendered":"We want French nukes, Polish president says \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French President Emmanuel Macron has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/emmanuel-macron-nuclear-weapons-europe-open-debate\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">suggested extending<\/a> France\u2019s so-called nuclear umbrella over its European allies, amid fears an aggressive Russia could one day turn its sights from Ukraine, which it invaded in 2014 and again in 2022, to the European Union\u2019s eastern flank.<\/p>\n<p>With around 300 nuclear warheads, France is the only EU member country to possess such weapons, and one of three NATO members along with the U.S. and the U.K.<\/p>\n<p>Poland and Denmark have previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/poland-denmark-open-france-macron-nuclear-proposal-nato\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expressed openness<\/a> to the idea of sheltering under France\u2019s nuclear protection.
