Mark Danby, originally from Stockport, Greater Manchester, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/wales-news\/popular-spanish-city-golden-beaches-31116242\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">swapped his UK lifestyle for the sun-drenched Spanish coast of Manilva, located in Malaga<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Embracing life in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/spain\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>, Mark seems to still hanker for some aspects of home, particularly the classic British dish of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fish and chips<\/a>. Fortunately, he discovered that this staple is not hard to come by in his adopted hometown. An IT worker and running a YouTube channel, Mark moved to Spain on a digital nomad visa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It allows foreigners to live in Spain while working remotely for firms abroad or as self-employed. Mark, who <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/we-love-benidorm-much-weve-32161481\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">documents his life abroad <\/a>on his channel <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@MarksGrandTapasTour-x5c\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Tapas Guy<\/a>, recently had a craving for the British food and headed to Marlows in CC Los Hidalgos, a <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/restaurants\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">local chippy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Opting for a large cod and chips at the cost of \u20ac16.95 (around \u00a314.65), he chose to dine alfresco. Upon its arrival, Mark remarked on the &#8220;humongous&#8221; size of the portion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He admitted that perhaps he shouldn&#8217;t have &#8220;gone for large&#8221; as he unveiled two pieces of fish in what seemed like an enormous serving on film.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1753984034_953_0_Brit-orders-fish-and-chips-in-Spain-and-is-floored-when-he-tastes-it.jpg\" alt=\"YouTuber Mark Danby\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Mark noted the &#8220;humongous&#8221; size of the portion (Image: Mark Danby)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">However, the actual taste test left something to be desired. Starting with the chips, Mark remarked: &#8220;I mean, it&#8217;s okay, but it&#8217;s a little bit greasy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Don&#8217;t know if you can see the grease on that, but certainly not crispy. Sort of a bit soggy, bit sort of bendy. I think it needs a sauce. Not particularly tasty, unfortunately. I mean, they&#8217;re okay.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He then moved on to the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/restaurant-reviews\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">cod<\/a>, which he also branded as &#8220;greasy&#8221;, though he acknowledged the second portion was &#8220;crispy on the top&#8221; and appeared a &#8220;little bit better&#8221; beneath.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He observed that it was a &#8220;bit flaky&#8221;, but it &#8220;doesn&#8217;t hold the flakiness&#8221; and went on to push fragments onto his <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/whats-on\/food-drink-news\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">fork<\/a>, noting it &#8220;kind of just mushes together&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">He added: &#8220;I&#8217;m afraid the fish is absolutely tasteless. So what you&#8217;re left with&#8230;tasteless. I&#8217;m afraid it&#8217;s tasteless fish and greasy batter. Let&#8217;s try this piece of batter.
